  • SCs are targeting my company it seems

This time, instead of the usual paranoid "they must be after me" thing, it's an actual organized effort. We got a company wide email sent out that there's a website or blog of some sort where they encourage people to call my company and record the call while they try to get the CSRs to say something damaging/embarassing about the company so they can spread the audio all over the net of a person from X company giving bad customer service.

Don't know if was related, but I know myself and a few people around me got some weird calls where it seemed like the person was trying to aggrivate or goad us into saying something nasty. As if the standard SCs weren't fun enough......

Really? Perhaps we could all call your company and do the opposite. Ask harmless questions and be very very grateful for all your help. And then post those recordings on teh intarwebs.

Hmm... I wonder what company that might be?

A long time ago, there was a movie -- Telefon I think was the name. The plot was that people were hypnotized so that years later, when the phone rang and they heard a certain phrase -- "The woods are lovely, dark and deep" -- they'd go out and blow something up.

I'm beginning to believe that there are a bunch of people who've been hypnotized like that in real life... they're programmed so that every time they hear the name of a certain cable company, they're driven to post pointless, illiterate rants on the internet.

It's perverse... and yet strangely beautiful.

I remember getting an email from corporate warning of the same thing, but that was about a year ago. Something like they're asking questions about something for which by FCC rule we must have a plan for. How fuzzy is that? If I can dig it up, I'll post the basic contents.

I think your guess on what company I work for is probably correct.

Not to say my company doesn't ever mess up or do anything warranting criticism, but there's people who seriously think all we do is think of ways to steal people's money and take their service away.

Also, a lot of the "ARRR, *company* SUCKS" rants on the internet are written by people who had their service turned off for hitting the download cap (aka using P2P programs 24/7 and using their home accounts for business uses).

Hmm, did they make any mention of the legal team retaliating? This sounds WAY too much like harrasment to let it slide.

I don't think they can record a call without your permission.

And I love the implication that SCs actually know how to record phone calls

Over half the states and all of Canada have one-party telephone recording laws, which is to say that only one party in the conversation needs to know that they are being recorded.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

And the locations that don't simply have to say that the call may be monitored and they're in the clear.

We had something sort of like that happen here at CS a couple summers ago. A bunch of members of some other web site decided to come in and troll us. In a way, it was fun, because I banned more people in one day than in the rest of my time as a mod put together. Of course, the previous owner didn't like to do IP bans, so they kept coming back, so it stopped being fun before too long.

Karma eventually came back and bit them in the ass, as their entire site got taken down in a hack a few months later.

Obviously, we work for the same company.

The one I read was pretty general... I didn't get from it that there was a group or site. The loose translation was, "Because a few people have gained their fifteen minutes of fame by posting recordings, we can expect that uninventive copycats will want to do the same thing."
