*Computer gamer, that is. She's more than willing to join me for tabletop-type games.

I'll be right over with 3 large bags of Cheetos, 2 cases of Dr Pepper, and 3 large pies.

Oh yeah, and my laptop that has all the D&D software on them (and all my books).

    What edition?

I mean, we know how to either reuse old equipment, put a version of Linux or other alternative OS on them, or spend a little to get it properly disposed of and recycled, but the average user probably leaves it out on the curb with the regular trash.
Some of us like it when people toss their computers. A few months back, my neighbor tossed a perfectly good 800Mhz machine. Nothing really wrong with it, other than it was noisy and dirty. Once I'd cracked it open, put the CPU heatsink/fan on properly (the dumbass who built the thing put it on backwards!), and cleaned out the dust it worked fine. It's nowhere near as fast as my other computer, but it serves as a backup/guinea pig. Not too bad for 20 minutes work on a freebie

I'm at the point now that I rarely buy new computer parts--I have a huge stash of things I've salvaged from junkers over the years.

I bought my Dell CPX Laptop for $300. I only use it to surf the web. I still have my desktop, that has my programs on it.

Sadly, I no longer have time on a consistant basis that a good RPG requires. Most of what I do are eurogames/strategic games. Settlers of Catan, Roborally, some of the Axis & Allies games, Shadows Over Camelot, that kind of thing.

Now if you're near the central Ohio area and like that kind of stuff (or are willing to try it), I can hook you up with an amazing game club if you're interested.

One of my co-workers regularly shops the Deseret Industries (it's kinda like the goodwill or salvation army or thrift town type store) for computers. He says he's found loads of them that are still good enough to run win98 or linux (he prefers ubuntu or knoppix). Even so, there are other distros of linux, BeOS or even (GASP!) DR-DOS that run on old hardware. It all depends on what you want to do.
