  • 2-3 Seconds must be death to cable watchers...

    CN = Crazy nutter
    Me = Slowly becoming Jaded Tech Support Rep

    Me : {Greeting spiel}
    CN : I have a problem with my digital cable.
    Me: I am sorry to hear that, can you describe it more in detail?
    CN: The channels above 400 are taking 2-3 seconds to give me a picture.
    Me: Hmm, lets try and reboot the box and send a hit. "Mainly cause this guys impatient and did not want to blow him off"
    - After those solutions did not work -
    Me: I am sorry but the digital feed is impossible to fix on my end "something a sup suggested I tell him to get his impatient self off the phone"
    CN: Can you send a tech out to fix this?
    Me: Our techs would be unable to correct something like that, after all 2-3 seconds is not really a problem.
    CN: Well I pay for the service and I expect it to work.
    Me: Only a few channels do it and it could correct itself, perhaps the area is lagged but we can't send a tech to fix this.
    CN: I want to speak to a supervisor!
    Me: Very well....
    -Transferred-

    Note: While we were troubleshooting as best I could, he actually counted the seconds for one channel to show up. But seriously what are you really whining about...2-3 seconds come on now.

    I have digital cable, and all of the channels above the basic tier channels lag a bit like that. I just assumed it was a normal thing. But then, I don't live or die by my TV, I'm usually on the computer with the TV on for noise/information.

      You should have told him to get off his ass and go to the gym, somebody who requires their TV like that needs a hobby.

        Well, it makes channel surfing a little more difficult, but who channel surfs anymore? Televisions have built-in guides now.

              Same here. Once in a while, when I'm surfing, the previous channel will appear for a brief second or two before the actual channel comes on.

              No big deal . . . besides, there are more important things to get one's underwear in a bunch over.

                You shoulda told him to use the channel guide. It solves the whole issue. (that is if your company has a cable guide.)

                Most cable remotes even have a button for it... stupid customer!!!
                You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take,and statistically speaking, 99% of the shots you do take.

                  Seriously tho... come ON....... is it really worth calling the cable company over a 2-3 second delay like this?

                  But knowing SCs in their world 2-3 seconds is like 10 hours.

                    I actually had someone once complain that his laptop took "too long" to boot up. Anyone want to guess how long? About a minute and a half. Needless to say, I told him "tough crap" and moved on to more important issues

                        My *TOWER* takes about 45 seconds to boot up, thanks to my tweaks and my recent switch from Vista over to an x64 based version of XP. If it started taking 90sec to boot up, yes, I'd start to freak, but then again... I know what I'm talking about, that @$$hole doesn't.

                            This thread should be named Cable customers are lazy. This Tier 3 rep who is taking Tier 1 calls told me this gem.

                              It is. With digital, you're going to get some lag. I've had ppl complain to me about 2-3 second lag. Also, HD is usually about 1-2 seconds behind standard def programming. Nothing we can do about it.
