I got a frantic email from one of the store managers in my area. Their fax machine as well as their electronic machine won't send or receive anything.
Off I go to the rescue!
I get there and I try the fax machine, no dial tone. No problem. I plug my buttset in, no dialtone there. OK, it's not the fax machine.
I plug my tracer in and trace it back to the punch down, it traces fine. I re-punch down the wires just to be safe. Sill no tone.
OK, plug the tracer back in. I trace it form the punch down to some other components (I don't know what a lot of them are) and all the way back to where the line comes in from the street and I can trace it.
Hmm, it's not a connectivity issue I can deal with.
I've known the manager for a long time so I jokingly ask him "You did pay the bill, right?"
Sure enough he pauses for a minute and says "You know, now that you mention it, I did get a call from some crazy lady saying we owed money on our phone bill but wouldn't give me any other information..."
