The servers here were originally named for the IT guy's kids.
After that, they started being named for the primary programs they ran.

It's a movie, you fruitcake!Quoth Difdi View PostIf that would work in real life, you wouldn't see lumberjacks getting hurt by spiked trees. To say nothing of the spectacular effects you'd get from attempting to chainsaw a power line...
I wasn't serious. No need to kill my poor joke like that.

Back at my IT school, servers had a pretty plain name, but workstations were named, depending on the room, after constellations (I usually used Cancer or Aries), cocktails (Mojito or SexOnTheBeach), chemical elements from Mendeleiev's table (Cobalt or Antimony) or kids shows characters (Captain Future or Actarus)."I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question."

One of the servers at my schools was named "squirrel." It's primary purpose was for teachers to put stuff on for students to download. It was always funny reading a syllabus "copies of assignments and selected course material will be available on squirrel."

My desktop computer is called Shika, a shortening of Shikamaru from Naruto, because it's bloody brilliant, but usually lazy as all hell. My two hard drives are called Cid and Fred, for no particular reason
I'm still not sure about the name for my laptop, but I'm thinking Pipsqueak, after Edward from Fullmetal Alchemist, because it's brilliant and tiny :3"You're a ninja. You can't be a fan of pirate rock"

It's funny you should post that. I recently got that very same picture when one of our system admins used it to demonstrate the logic behind the night procedures for a division we acquired a while ago...Quoth PepperElf View Postwhat were they doing?
