When I used to work at Staples a guy tried to buy desktop memory for his laptop. I told him it wouldn't work, he needs to buy laptop memory. He says:

"Can't I just cut it in half?"

His reasoning was because he didn't want to pay the 50% premium that laptop memory carried over the desktop version. I told him if he cuts the memory in half we would NOT allow a return. He said "That's not fair I am the customer!" and left.

Wow. That's impressive considering that the card typs don't even align right to work.

I'm not even sure I WANT to know how he pulled it off.

He didn't. That's why it's junked, and not the whole system.

That guy should have his license to walk and breathe at the same time revoked. Isn't it a felony to abuse good hardware that way? It should be.

I have TWO of those in my computer (yay SLI bridge!), and I went to some trouble to assemble a collection of hardware that would be compatible. Then again, I'm pretty good at NOT forcing something that clearly won't fit where it's not supposed to go.

              Crysis runs BEAUTIFULLY, btw.

If only I liked Crysis I'd test it now and on compare it to the new computer that's in the works, looking at the new Nvidia 260

Technically you do not need a Geforce 8 series to run Crysis, if you got a good 7 series card it will work. The only reason you would need 8 is for DX10.

Well, okay, having two of those beasts wasn't technically for Crysis, that was just a bonus, because the game came with the card. It was generally for DX10 and for the new stuff coming down the chutes in the near future. I'm a genuine geek married to another geek, and proud of it. We likes our shiny gadgets, we does. But I do need to get a better power supply, now that I'm thinking of it.

Do they still make motherboards with ISA slots? I haven't seen one of those in a good 7/8 years.

I think the least year for ISA was 2001/2002.
