Greetings, fellow techs.
I love the site, reading all the other tech support cases that have resulted in multiple *facepalms*, so I thought I'd share one of my own, that makes me laugh whenever I think about it.
I built a system for a client, and it was sent out to him on courier. A couple of days later, I get a phone call from client;
Client: The system's fine but I can't get the sound to work.
Me: That's weird. It was working when it left the office.
We proceeded to go through device manager, checking if the drivers had gone AWOL, but all seemed fine. Went on for a couple of minutes checking sounds through Control panel, etc.
Eventually...
Me: I'm sorry, this is going to sound really stupid but are your speakers switched on?
Client: I don't have any speakers.
Me: *trying not to laugh while facepalming, wondering how to break the news gently* Aha.
The moral of this story; always ask the stupid questions first, no matter how stupid they sound...
