  • The wonders of moves

Be gentle for this is my first thread

I am currently employed on contract to do a move for a large bank. We have been moving and reimaging PCs for a couple of weeks now and of course there has been a mistaken or two in that time. This was not one of them.

Last night, while we were performing more work in the are we have been in for the past week, we were approached by one of the users complaining about the image on his computer being wrong, ie wrong programs installed and profiles set up. After five minutes or so we were finally able to figure out what was wrong. He was trying to sign on at his old desk which of course is no longer his desk. Even after the team lead explained that he now works out of a different cubicle and that we have no control over who goes where the idiot still wouldn't leave us alone about it!

Really makes me want to become a disciple of Simon Travaglia.

That's what user profiles stored on a server are for... the images follow the login whichever computer it may go to.

But of course it's not your duty to dictate network setup policy

They also eat up a lot of network, especially when everyone is logging in at the same time. Not good when the network isn't terribly robust to start with. Like the one I work with on the job.

But even then there would have been the problem of the guy sitting in the wrong cubicle to do his work.... granted, that is not my problem.
