  • This is actually quite funny.

One of my users' laptop crashed (literally - he dropped it) and the hard drive stopped responding.

I swapped the drive and installed WIndows and all of the applications and then I went onto doing a data recovery on his crashed hard drive and what did I find?

    A few hundred .NES files.

    Gah!!

I had a user who was given a laptop (without the giver going through MIS, of course) so we had to take it away from her.

She had a big big folder called Trance on her desktop she wanted back. Yay me, I spent 2 hours moving her mp3's from ghost image to desktop pc.

I hate it when they have no room left on their machines because well, they can't tell the difference between IMPORTANT data like WORK STUFF vs. UNIMPORTANT....geez.

    Ok I'll shut up now.

      Cute,

If you don't have a policy at work about mp3s, GET ONE. It's a life saver.

One of my cleints was wondering why her laptop was out of HDD space.

She had Pirates of the Caribbean Online (the MMORPG) on her laptop. She didn't know how it got there. I could have gotten her into so much trouble for that, but I didn't.

MP3s are way too common and they take too long to copy especially when they have hundreds of them.

See, I am a responsible work machine user. I nuke all personal items and scrub the drive before IT even gets a call about a problem.

I just keep my important stuff on my 4GB flash drive. It works wonders. I am also having FireFox on it also and I do get on the internet at work, when we are slow.

(Usually) Pirated copies of NES games you can play on your computer with an emulator.

I've asked the boss about AUP's...and there really is a lame ass one.
NOTHING at all about banning MP3's and MP4's and videos and such from machines.

                  Gah!!!!

Gotta love users with a 10MB PST file and 7 gigs of MP3s. I wonder where their priorities are?

Okay, nothing about banning them, but is there a mention that they HAVE to be backed up?

"Sorry, only priority files get backed up. Non-priority files are your own responsibility."
