  • Why does it have to go racist?

    Holy Livin'
I take supervisory calls from internal cs reps, the following call came from a co-worker in another department. Right off the bat, when I pulled the customer's account I saw that she had spoken to (and insulted) every member of my team in one day!

The rep told me the customer ordered a router cable, it arrived, it was missing - not in the package, whatever. This upstanding member of the community was screaming that the rep was completely incompetant & that as soon as I get off this call, I need to take that rep to the bathroom and explain to her that she is a poor example of a proud black woman, and that her poor performance means that she is going to be passed up for promotion for a white man!

Me: "I'm sorry that so & so wasn't able to assist you, if you--
SC: "I'm not finished! You will listen to me! I tell you when you can speak! I am your boss, you will do as I say! You sent me a cable that was wrapped in plastic wrap, it was used!"
    Me: "I-"
SC "Be quiet! This cable is used! I install these things for my customers, how can I bring them a cable that looks like its wrapped like a leftover?"
    I stayed silent, she continued...
Much of what was said was filled with racial slurs about black people (after claiming she was a proud black woman) she called me "Whitey" a few times, expletive, expletive...then she asks:
SC: "Hello? Are you still there?"
Me: "Yes, Ma'am, and I do apologize for the inconvenience, sometimes our manufacturers wrap their product in cellophane for packaging reasons. That particular item comes directly from their warehouse, to you so I can assure you that its not used. Is there anything else I can assist you with?"
Holy crap, in retrospect, I wish I hadn't said anything!
SC: "You weren't listening to a G** D*** word I was saying, were you Whitey? I told you the M***** F****** registration card was missing! I need you to send me one, I can't install this for my customer without the registration card!"
Me: "I understand, however, we don't keep registration cards for XYZ Hardware, you would need to contact the manufacturer, I can transfer you, or you can obtain that information from their website."
SC: "I WANT A G** D*** REGISTRATION CARD IN MY HAND RIGHT NOW!!!"
Me: "I understand that you need that item, as I explained, you will need to contact the manufacturer for that item. Is there anything else I can help you with today?" This was at the 45 minute mark
Customer went into some racial, "Help Me, Jesus", Tazmanian Devil rant and finally hung up - Thank God!

Why did you keep that caller on the line??

She would have been long ago; probably the first time she said "whitey". Ok, maybe the second time, because I could have misunderstood her. But definitely then.

Probably hoped that all the yelling would raise her blood pressure enough so she would have a stroke. That's how you get them, kill them through stress. Wow, what a <derogatory term for women>. Just imagine what would have happened had you been black and she had been white and she said those things. Got to love double standards.

Not wanting to open up a racial can of worms, but I wonder what would have happened if she found out that you [kissingwhiskey79] were a black man? I wonder if that would have gone over well?

Wait. This was an INTERNAL call?! Damn. When I worked internal tech support, a call like that would get a person fired in two seconds flat.

I don't suppose there's any chance that call was reported?
