  • Let's take a guess at what is going to happen.

I sent this email to a user who said that they were getting "errors with Word and then it closes".

Can I get a screenshot of the error message that comes up when you try to use Word (and it tells you Word needs to close), including any detail screen?

To get a screenshot, make sure the error message is the “top” window and hit ALT-Print Screen.

Then, open an email, click in the message field and click CTRL-V (or right click and select paste).

    Thank you!

Guesses at what his response will be?

Probably he'll say it's too complicated or "it didn't work".... but alternatively you could end up with screenshots of a closed program (e.g. everything but the program). I never liked how Windows clipboard can only have one thing in it's head at a time.

I think the customer will try to take a picture of the computer screen & will actually e-mail a picture of their CPU instead.

It'll be a screenshot of 2 monitors, spread over both, and jammed into an email body too small for even EAGLES to read.

            I hate that.

Hmmm . . . if this "genuis" is too bright to figure out how to do the Alt-PrintScrn to take a snapshot of the error message, he may be too bright to figure out how to take a picture with a camera.

There again . . . if he's as genuis as I suspect, he'll use a Polaroid One-Step. Even a five year old can operate one of those.

Bonus points if he sends the picture snail mail.

I'm going to call he hits CTRL+P a bunch of times and prints off a ton of copies of nothing. He'll then draw a crummy sketch of it and mail it to your department.

Luckily the user knew what to do, mostly. he did send me the error message but didn't include any of the details.

He's going to send you a scanned copy of a printout of the screen shot.

This is an educated guess based on my own experience.
