  • LIES!!!

"I'm being told that I have 2 voicemail messages, but I can't listen to them!"
    "What happens when you try?"
Goes into a spiel about trying it from the phone... which was news to me... but okay.
"And you can't listen to them from your email?"
    "No."
    "What happens when you try?"
"I dunno, let me try..... It works."

This is the same woman who claims that we conspired to kill her computer. Cause it's our fault her power supply knocked out her HD and mobo.

Oh, Gord. That sounds like about half of my activation support calls.

You'd think they'd feel pretty stupid after having that conversation, but...
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

The stupid is strong with this one.

Reinstalling Windows XP - from Scratch for the Microsoft Helpdesk.

Please people understand who to blame for computer issues. Please take computers 101. The book costs $25 and will save everyone dealing with you lots of money in medication dealing with Anti-Stress.

I am thankful that the few family that I do support will at least take the time to learn about the issue and then ask me to verify was I right.

You have NO idea how many times, in 4 weeks, I've had to do that to people. Only, it's usually just Connection Manager

"Okay, now we're going to have to uninstall and reinstall Connection Manager"
        "But it's installed"
"I know, but you're running an outdated version that can't connect to the update server. Can I have you.."
        "But it's installed"
        "I know, but it's..."
        repeat ad naseum...

Would it be easier to say "It's broken, we have to remove it and get the latest version"?

This reminds me, for some reason, of the student I had come in.

He had The Shield Dexlue 2008 antivirus installed on his PC. Our new NAC software didn't recoginze it as an AV, and thus, trouble.

He started pitching a fit that he paid for it, and I got to tell him that if he wanted online, he'd have to get a new AV. Fine, so I get to install ours. FREE.

Now, I'm not saying that his AV was malware, but he didn't have a hijacker before I removed, he had one after, and it disappeared after I removed the AV's folder in Program Files.........

I'll say it. Its one of those rogue programs out there that pretends to be an AV or anti-spyware and is really an infection.
(I write about these programs as my job. The scarey thing is how fast they are propigating and spreading.)

Then I'm glad that I was able to get it off so easily. I was able to get on after hijackthis, but then it came back on after a reboot. I just had to delete the program folder to get back the intarwebz.
