Sony: The reason the PS3 is outputting 480i, 480p, and 1080i but not 1080p is because the XBOX 360 is connected to the same TV and keeps it from outputting 1080p.

Indeed, as you know, line conditioning is especially bad for electronic devices which are obviously not designed to deal with a steady, constant, surge-free flow of electricity. Wait...what? They do work better... But Microsoft said...Quoth lordlundar View PostThen there's Microsoft's stance that the cause of the RRODs on their 360s is...
Wait for it...
That it's plugged into a power bar instead of directly into the wall socket.

I was once told that the reason I couldn't see the speed difference after upgrading from a 1meg to 2meg line was because I had a hardware router on the network.Lady, people aren't chocolates. D'you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling. Dr Cox - Scrubs

that's because they don't want to admit that they made a crap decision to go with cold-soldering instead of regular... so that when you play the 360 a lot or leave it plugged in and on when not using it... the cold-solder joints will heat up too much and crackThen there's Microsoft's stance that the cause of the RRODs on their 360s is...
so they'd rather blame it on a powerstrip

You didn't know that? And yeah, that's pretty much what's been causing the RROD from the beginning -- MS decided to be IDIOTS and now don't want to take responsibility for it.Quoth draggar View PostWait, WHAT?? Wwwwwellll, I could see ONE case but very odd one where what they said might be true... that is, if it is it's very odd and... stupid.... One of the features some vendors have with HDMI is that when there is a non-HDCP capable or verified unit in the chain, the source will drop to a lower (low) resolution, to avoid illegal copying of high resolution material (My views on this are worthy of fratching, but I wont post it, as it's too much even for there).... but for this to be the cause then:
A) The TV would have to report all HDMI devices connected to it's inputs to all the other HDMI devs asking... which I could understand a vendor to do, if they where utterly stupid at interpreting what a chain of connection is, since the TV is the last point, not a hub...
and
B) PS3 should be aware of this, act uppon this (not all vendors do, I'm unsure if the PS3 does) AND consider 1080p to be high quality and 1080i not to be high quality enough to warrant dissabling it for piracy possibilities... which would be.... stupid.I pet animals, I rescue insects, I hug trees.

Didn't say it was different from the norm.Quoth lordlundar View PostAnd that's different from the norm, how?
That's pretty much their stance on EVERYTHING and they decided to stick to corporate policy.

Really? I was under the impression that they were using lead-free solder.

Yes
Yes, they did. And that was the problem. Lead-free solder (at-least the version Microsoft used) does not wick/wet as well as lead based solders. To use it you need to use the right flux/cleaning procedure and the temperature has to be tightly controlled.Quoth dendawg View Post

One of the factors was wrong, I believed it was the temperature and the result was basically a ton of cold solder joints.
