  • I have to buy a wireless router?

    Me: Our hero
    C: Dumbass caller

    *phone rings*

    Me: Good afternoon ******** computers

C: Hi, I bought a card to connect my laptop to the internet.

    Me: Good for you.

C: Yeah...And I keep getting a limited or no connectivity message.

Me: Well then, move closer to your wireless router.

    C: My what?

Me: The box you connected to your modem..*sigh*...You do have a highspeed connection?

C: No I don't. My brother comes over all the time with his laptop & goes online.

    Me: Hooray for him.

C: I don't want to go out & spend money on a router.

Me: ....Or pay for broadband service I assume.

    C: Yeah.

Me: Well, the only thing you can do is move closer to where the signal originates. That or get your own connection.

    C: But I don't wanna...

Me: Because most people I know of don't appreciate others stealing their bandwidth. Anything else?

    C: But...

    Me: Yessss?

    C:......

Me: Okay...Have a nice day & good luck.

    *click*

Ya gotta love the ones like that....No I will NOT help you steal bandwidth.....Cheap, stupid & a thief too.... I hope he does get connected & viruses the hell out of his system....ass.

Heheh - that reminds me of one when I used to do tech support for lawyers. A colleague of mine got a call from a lawyer trying to connect to a VPN with no success. After about an hour of troubleshooting, the lawyer notifies the rep that by the way, he's "borrowing" his neighbor's wifi connection.

My colleague then proceeds to explain to the caller why he's having trouble connecting to the VPN.

    C'mon - a lawyer?
Dear customer - you make enough money. Pay for your own damn wifi.

I think I created one of those today...

Caller: I can't connect to the internet with my desktop.
Me: Hm... you've got troubles. Your modem isn't online.
Caller: But my wireless laptop can connect.
      Me: Not to your service.
      Caller: I don't understand.

After I explained it several times, the caller seemed quite intrigued by the whole concept.

Ahhhh...the old "I have to pay to connect concept" thingy again...

From now on I'll get them hooked up & forward them to a website that I know they'll get virused from.
