  • E-mail idiots (rant/language)

Background: I have had a gmail address since about the time they started. It's my firstname.lastname@gmail.com.

It seems I have a rather common name - or I share it with idiots.

I have had in the last 6 months:

6 Resumes CC's to me (AKA Identity theft kits)
    4 BBQ invites
    3 Golf game invites
    8 Headhunters
    3 Apartment notices
    5 Historical Association meeting minutes
and 4 "Past Due" notices for the other firstname.lastname idiot from his cell phone company.

I have had e-fucking-nuff of this shit. It seems I have a pretty common name, and I was the first to get it at gmail. All of those were for one guy in MN. Thought the stuff from the UK government meeting minutes is interesting....

There is a major PEBKAC problem here. Granted, the US guy is a sales critter (I've seen his resume too many times), so I can let some stuff go, but for fucks sake! I have everything I would need to steal your identity because of either the idiots you call friends or you are an idiot.

    Dear fucknuts:

Yes, my e-mail wins - I got it first. Get some fucking brainpower and tell your drooling idiot friends/cow-orkers/slave-traders to get a fucking clue.

My e-mail is mine. Had it for years. You, on the other hand are an idiot for not doing all the checks.

That said, thank you very much for the porn site subscriptions that you paid for and had sent to me. I would have to ask, though, what would your wife think of that? Must suck to be you - you pay for the smut and can't access it.

So, fuck you, Mr. firstname.lastname - you are an idiot. Thanks for the porn and be ready for regular calls as it's the closest I can get to giving you a clue-by-four upside the head. You're not worth the gas.

    Our shared name.

PS: Please keep going with the typos on the porn sites.

    B

Once or twice, I can see - and I tell the sender that you got the wrong guy.

The one in MN is a drooling idiot, IMHO. Much more and he's getting a Ren bomb.

I keep on getting wrong e-mails to gmail too.... I figure since it's worldwide (whether they wanted it to be or not), it's bound to happen given the percentage of idiots in the world

Fortunately though, my e-mail is fmlast (first initial, middle initial lastname) -- so it opens me up to more than if it was my full name.

I once got a wrong e-mail saying "it is very important you get back with me! The baby is on it's way!!!!" or something like that (it involved delivery, hospital and a baby). I replied "sorry... you have the wrong person, I'd recommend you call them"

I know the feeling......one of my hotmail accounts seems to be a magnet for that sort of thing, with the most recent being some woman in the UK area sending login info regarding her broadband account.

Yeah, when I was younger I made my hotmail account. First intial, last name, last two of birth year. Since I was born in 1969, it has now become my spam email box.

Many years ago when I got my email account I used the version of my name I have used in role playing games. For example, instead of Don I used Donn. As could be expected, some people left out the second "n" and the person who had that email address would frequently forward them to me.

A couple of years ago, I found out his email address was no longer being used, and grabbed it for myself. I still get an occasional email for him, and will usually inform the sender that a different person now has that email address. But he does get a much different selection of spam than I usually get. Some of it makes me wonder if he still uses that email address on some web sites.

I'm just glad I didn't get my first choice for my gamil account. I actually tried (although I knew it wouldn't be available) middlename.lastname, which is what I go by on a day-to-day basis.

Trouble is, I share that name with an ex presidential candidate, AND a TV psychic... Man that would have sucked.

It may not be all their fault.

I got in way early on gmail to and my address is firstname.lastname@ Another guy came along later and his address is the same without the . I regularly get his e-mail even if it is properly addressed. We have both contacted gmail and they claim they do not support the . in the e-mail address and I can't possible have that address. I've tried to explain that I do have it and they are e-mailing me with it but you know how that goes....

Luckily for me the other one is a nice guy so I forward his stuff on to him when it comes in. I get his house listing every week (I wish I had his money!!) and his wifes church circle mail comes every monday morning.

I spoke w/ gmail as well (my email is firstname.last) and they said they their software doesn't recognize the dot. so your email address of firstnamelastname and firstname.lastname are supposed to be identical...

I don't believe them either cos i can't sign into gmail using firstnamelastname.

They probably decided originally to support it as different e-mails with a "." in it originally -- then thought "people are dumb" and later considered them the same ---- possibly causing problems with people who have already registered one with a "." and those without one.

That would have both sucked and blown at the same time. Though the potential for much would be tempting.......

                            Just sayin.....

For a quadruple bonus - first.last@gm, firstlast@gm, AND first.last@googlemail AND firstlast@googlemail all are the same.

I am both ashamed and happy about that. The folks in Europe who have the googlemail addy that shares my name gets some good pr0n subscriptions....or so the headers would indicate.
