Why is it when people try to contact their local IT people they develop a sudden and severe case of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)?

    Seriously.

If you're calling someone, anyone, they normally call them and if they don't answer, they'll leave a voicemail.

Not IT. They call us 10-20 times in 15 minutes never once leaving a voicemail, or they leave a voicemail with each call.

If they're emailing someone they send one email saying what they need to ay.

Not IT. They'll email us hundreds of times, CC their boss, their boss' boss, my boss, and her boss all with "I NEED YOU TO CALL ME ASAP!!!!!111"

If they send a text message to someone, just one quick text message.

Not IT - dozens of text messages CALL ME CALL ME!

...and it's always for some stupid little thing. Like the printer is out of paper, they can't figure out how to save a file, etc.

If your really lucky it will be somethig is not working that I had no clue about, like you brought in your own ink jet printer and since you don't have admin rights it won't work.

Win. I get that a dozen times a week and I have told people, even the same people more than once, that not only can I NOT install home printers but I can NOT give them admin rights.

Of course, they complain to me that they need to print from home and I should "break the rules" for them.

Funny how everyone expects the rules to be broken when it isn't their job on the line.

Do you tend to get a lot of novice computer users who insist upon knowing absolutely EVERYTHING about the BIOS?

I will often have the people go into the BIOS to tweak just a few settings. Maybe 5-6 at the most. Thats it. There are literally hundreds of settings in your average BIOS that you can adjust.

No, you really only need to change a few numbers.

No, I do not know what all the other options are.

No, you do not need to read them all off to me. If I ask you to change setting X, you do not need to read me the rest of the alphabet while on your task to find setting X on this screen..

Seriously, you only need to change a few numbers. Yes, I know the great variety of numbers can be confusing. You do not need to change anything else, nor do you need to know what all these other settings are.

Leave everything else on auto. Yes, auto/default. Just leave it alone.

No I don't know what they mean. You will have to contact your motherboard manufacturer for all these details.

Just change those numbers I told you do. NOTHING ELSE. Then save and exit, and restart. Thats it. Done.
