So I got another side job. (yay!!) and it went even better than the last one (anything would be an improvement on the last one...).
So, I get the laptop, and the client told me that they have to use an external mouse because the trackpad didn't work, and if I could get that to work, so much the better. I figured it was probably some driver issue, and put it out of my head until I sat down and started working on it.
I open it up, and instantly see why the trackpad doesn't work, the left mouse button doesn't go all the way back up, signifying some physical damage. If you press REALLY hard on the track pad, you can get some movement.
So I fix the rest of the issues, (Norton refusing to let go and playing god with the firewall) and called up the client.
I tell her about the mouse,
"Oh, yes, it definately was physical damage. Symptom of a frustrated user. Namely, me. BAM!" Laugh.
She hit the laptop hard enough to break the trackpad and the left mouse button, and she was somewhat proud of it!!
