  • Some stupid SCs ruin it for the rest of the good ones.

It used to be in the premium support dept where I work (where people pay us to fix issues) where once you downloaded something (say, ad-aware or AVG Free edition) you could leave it on a client's PC as a courtesy.

Well, not anymore. First it was Spybot, they banned us from using it because people didn't know how to use it correctly. That's cool, I'm not a fan of it anyway.

Next it was Ewido - after you use it you have to delete it. Now it's EVERYTHING. Why? Some people would use the software we installed, have a problem with it, and when the front line rep would tell the client, "sorry, your support period with us is expired, please refer to the program's vendor for assistance" they would blow up and scream "Well YOU installed it so you have to support it!"

Basically, as I was told it makes us "responsible."

About the only thing we can leave on the PCs are free browsers and email clients, but even then it's on a case-by-case basis. Like it if comes down to using Firefox or reformatting.

Suggestion: keep your tools on a USB stick and run them from there? No need to load anything onto their precious drives that way.

Having to remove everything you put on? OUCH!

That's what I do now; the only thing I actually install is Firefox if the user wants me to. Anything else they have to find on their own.
