Ever since Microsoft admitted Vista wasn't at good as they had hoped (corporate speak for "we know the product is crap"), I feared that one glaring admission was going to cause people to become EWs to try and get a free copy of 7.
Like this one. He actually wasn't sucky until he opened his mouth about Windows 7:
SC: Can I ask you a question on Windows 7?
Me: Sure.
SC: I was forced to buy Windows Vista, which is crap. (Who "forced" him? He had the opportunity to downgrade to XP as his desktop PC was one of the first-gen Vista models.) I am deserving of a free upgrade to Windows 7.
Me: Being your computer is over 2 years old it does not qualify for the free upgrade program.
SC: Both Microsoft and [store] admitted Vista is crap, and again I was forced to buy Vista when I bought this computer. I believe I deserve a free upgrade to 7.
Me: Technically, you weren't forced to buy Vista. When Microsoft came out with Vista, they insisted that the major OEM's like Gateway pre-load Vista and not XP. They also insisted that retailers not downgrade computers on the shelf to XP. Purely a business call.
SC: So are saying I'm stuck with software Microsoft and [store] admitted was junk?
SLD's note: I never heard our store calling Vista crap. They would have gotten sued by Microsoft if they did.
Me: Not at all sir, when it comes out if you want it you can buy it.
SC: That's not very fair to me. I was forced to buy this computer with crap software.
Me: Have you installed the 2 service packs for Vista? Because those updates fixed many of the issues people had with Vista.
SC: That doesn't matter. I want an upgrade to Windows 7 for free as I was forced to buy crap software.
At this point I had it. He wasn't eligible to get the free upgrade, and I got tired of him constantly saying he was forced to buy Vista. I didn't tell him that he had a chance to downgrade to XP as that would have ticked off a fury of "why didn't you tell me that when I bought it!" tirades from him.
Me: Sir, I'm sorry you feel this way but from a business standpoint Microsoft is not going to give away free copies of its software just because people don't like the previous version. Like I said before, as your computer was bought long before the free upgrade program if you want 7, you can buy it.
SC: You know what, all you're being is a parrot and not actually helping me. I guess I have to take matters in my own hands.
Me: If you want to call Microsoft, you're more than welcome to.
SC: Yeah okay bye.

Yeah I know 7 is the great one that saves up all from the "horrors" of Vista (at least we hope), but if you have to buy it, you have to buy it.
