  • The "blue screen of death" is no longer blue!

First of all, I think "blue screen of death" is one of the most over-used and mis-used phrases in the computer industry.

With that aside, I have a ticket come in the "short" description is "blue screen of death".

This is the notes our wonderful brain surgeons from Tier I put in the notes (British spelling and spelling mistakes are not taken out):

escription of Issue: Bluescreen of death/the screen is comeing with green in colour and with a small straight line.
If the screen is green then how is it a BLUE screen of death? This is not a BSOD related issue - this is a hardware issue.

Considering everything I've heard about Tier 1 on this forum, maybe they're also color blind?

One of my older computers used to have the green line of death. 1cm from the top of the monitor, a green line would appear and the computer would be locked.

What caused it? Scrolling in internet explorer. Nothing else, just scrolling in IE.

OK, here's the really scary part.

The issue solved itself so I closed the ticket. Well, it happened again and she got a different Tier I tech. They also called it a blue screen of death.

I have another name for tier I: job security.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm a bit surprised that one of the "features" of Windows Vista and/or Windows 7 wasn't to change the colour/format of the Blue Screen of Death. Then they could claim they had fixed it :P

Though I guess that I shouldn't start blaming Microsoft for the slight-of-hand that they haven't done and that I thought up :P

Just reading that makes me nostalgic for Strongbad's original email answering computer...

Hi I'm a Mac. And I'm a PC. Were better than ever in PC land, no more pesky crashes and BSOD. Uh, PC, didn't you just make it purple.

I have to take exception to this. Not ALL of US Tier 1's are that bad. Some of us even fix the problems when presented to us, instead of passing the buck.

But given the OP, I can understand the sentiment.

I figure Tier 1 people are like customers. Most are good, but there are some sucky ones. Of course, this holds true for any profession.
