(Sorry all my posts seem to be about OnlineShop.com!)
Onlineshop.com seems to attract a certain criminal element. They use stolen cards to make orders online. Flags that tell us these are suspicous are-
1. Billing and Delivery addresses are vastly different
2. Failed order attempts at multiple addresses
3. Customer calls and cannot pronounce their own name ie Customer with an obvious Not Uk accent will give their name as Sean Lavery but not be able to pronounce it at all. Not even in a way that would make us think it's just an accent issue. Sean is See-an and Lavery is Lay-ver-ai. This is nonesense and a red flag. As is pronouncing Bob Jones as Boob Joe-nees.
4. Customer call chasing order, is advised the bank is investigating the transaction and the order is on hold and doesnt care!
There are a few more but you get the idea.
Now we get this charmer. Her order value was £300 odds. Not a small amount by any means. Her order has been held. It looks a bit suspicious so we have emailed the address used to register asking the customer to contact us so we can verify some account details and release the order.
99% of customers who are genuine will accept this.
SC does not.
Me: Onlineshop.com, how can I help?
SC: *her accent is very thick and difficult for me to understand* Where is my order?
Me: May I have your order number, please?
SC: WHAT?! I don't have it. Find it with my name. My name is afjhwhgef adfhwiaf.
Me: Im sorry, i didnt catch that. Can you repeat it, perhaps spell it out for me? The phone line is a bit poor and I can't hear you very well'
SC: sighs and huffs - spells out her name.
Me: Im sorry, we dont have any orders under that name. Is it possible you used a different name?
SC: WHAT?! No! Where is my order!!!!!
We go back and forth on this with her giving me different variations of the name and nothing is coming up.
I asked for the email address she used to register with and the order comes up...
Delores Precious Princess Mgakpo
I have edited this only very slightly to protect her real name but so you can see the what I had to deal with.
The names she gave me-
Kenechi Ezeigwe
obiageli igwe
adaeze igwe
So I can see that the order is held and the fact she cant give me the name makes this double suspicous. I advise her that we have emailed her re the order and she says she never got it.
I explain the order is held pending the banks authorisation as the transaction is for a high amount.
She flips out. I advise her its not a long process, I just need to confirm 3 things with her and I can release the order.
I need the cardholders address, DOB and the bank the card is provided from. The rules are, if she can and will provide this, we let the order go. Although we cant actually see any of this!!!
She spends 20 minutes bitching but coughs up the info so the order is released. I end the call by advising her that the bank who provide her card were investigating potential fraud on the account so she may want to give them a call to let them know all is well. She sqeaked and hung up!
3 weeks later, the order comes back - "Addressee Unknown".
She never called again.
But you can imagine if she had been the real deal. 2 mins to check some info and then the order goes out. If this was your card that was stolen and used, you'd WANT the retailer to be vigilant!
