  • dvd error message

Heyyy what's up peeps? The tech-impaired granny is back with a dilemma.

My laptop is running Windows 10 (don't really wanna switch to 11 as by all accounts, it sucks). I have a newly-installed current version of VLC video player. But it still says it can't open or play a disc. I keep getting a message saying your input can't be opened, check log for details. I don't know what log it wants - there's no history of anything, I'm just trying to play a dvd.

Any ideas? Googling this problem just keeps giving me the same videos on how to install the vlc player.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

First thing I'd suggest is updating the drivers for your DVD drive.

Here's a guide on how to create the required log - why they don't just tell you the error, who knows...
      https://superuser.com/questions/1511...-player-on-w10

Digging further it seems that, due to copyright measures, many commercial DVDs can't be played by default. This page is on the VLC site and explains how to install an extension that's required to do this: https://www.videolan.org/developers/libdvdcss.html - This should be sufficient if the discs and player are set to the same region, if not then there may be other things on that site to help.

Hopefully that'll be enough to get you going.

Can it read any other types of media? Audio CD? Data CD or DVD? Have you tried a different video DVD?

        Have you tried other applications?
