  • Upgraded Ubuntu, now can't boot system normally

My desktop upgraded to Ubuntu Questing Quokka last week, and until today was humming along with no problems. I did get a failed package update notification, but I can't suss out where the problem lies.

Every boot now results in a kernel panic (started today with no warning), and the only way I can boot normally is to run dpkg in recovery mode....but I don't know what it's cleaning up and it has to be run at every startup. When it does start, my screen resolution is wonky (still usable, just zoomed in way far).

Any ideas? I'll try to get some more info (error messages etc) later.
