Another TV question

I have had the same TV for years. It's a Panasonic TH-42PA30. It has no HDMI or USB ports. I've been using a SCART cable to connect it to my DVD player and, more recently, my set-top box.

However, this cable started causing problems in the past few months. Sometimes I would just get that color pattern on the TV, sometimes the picture was dark, etc. I finally bought more cables and plugged one into the same port in the back of the TV where the old one had been.

It didn't work with the set-top box. I tried using the old one again, and it didn't work. I plugged it into the DVD player, and got sound, but no picture.

So what should I do?

There's a couple of possibilities here, one cheaper to deal with than the other.

First, you got a replacement cable that doesn't include all the necessary internal connections; this is possible but not very likely, as usually a cable intentionally "incomplete" would bear some kind of label stating it was only good for X purpose.

Second, the problem was not the cable, it's the TV. The wiring around the socket may be showing its age, hence the degradation in image quality and now the total failure after it's been jostled a couple of times with the swapping of plugs. If you have a repair shop in town, might be worth seeking their advice; it may be cheaper to get a new TV, or at least new to you.

According to what I read, I need an RGB SCART connector. I tried the old one again, and it works. I'm just keeping an eye out for the correct kind of cable.
