  • Android and music/videos?

I have been holding off on getting a new cell in the hopes of the new iPhone being released soon. But with AT&T getting rid of their unlimited plan I started looking around at other phones.

Today I fell in love with the Sprint HTC EVO 4G. It has what I want the most which I doubt the iPhone will have, a hotspot....

Thing is I wanted the iPhone for the music and videos so I didn't have to carry around my phone and iPod all the time.

Does anyone here use the Android Market? Do they have music and videos you can buy? If not is it easy to get them fr and onto the phone? If its not easy I guess I'll still be walking around with a phone and my iPod... lol

I have a G1 with T-Mobile. My plan does allow unlimited internet connection and they have a decent (although, IMO not great, possibly just my area) 3G network.

Now, I have not used either of them, but the phone does come with an Amazon MP3 link where you can buy MP3's, and a YouTube app for watching videos. I don't know about actually buying and saving videos on the phone.

There is a page for the Android Market if you want to look at actual apps.

Personally, I don't use my phone for music and video, but that's partly my own preferences for not wanting to watch them on such a small screen. That, and the battery life on the first generation phones is abysmal when you're using 3G (although it's gotten better with each update and is now tolerable). If you do go with Android, get the more recent phone.

The HTC EVO 4G came out today. The local Sprint store ran out. They said they are getting more tomorrow.

The thing is I kinda liked the idea of having all my stuff in ne place ipod and iphone on itunes.. BUT the personal hotspot thing keeps pulling me back to the htc evo....

Videos: I don't know. I've seen players which can handle multiple formats. I've seen demos of the tablets that are coming out later this year showing them handling 720p video. So, it *can* do video. I just haven't played with it, so don't know the exact mechanics.

Audio: Ogg, MP3, and a couple other formats are supported out of the box. Amazon MP3 store is accessible. If itunes can export a regular m3u playlist and mp3 files, you can use it to drop the files in place on your Android phone (or the microSD card, if you wish to eject it and use an sd card reader). Plays it very well, I think, and I use it everyday on the way to/from work for just that purpose.

I'd go with an Android phone, personally. I have it, love it, and the only thing I want to do is upgrade it. The G1 has some major speed and battery issues, but the Nexus One (my wife has it) is sweet. I can only believe that the Sprint 4G will have similar enough specs to make me drool.

Actually, you don't have to eject the sd card. Plug your phone in, and when it detects the connection, it will offer to let you unmount the card, so your PC can mount it, and then will let you remount it once you've ejected it from your PC.

This is how I pull pictures off of my phone.

Eric just beat me to what I was about to post. That's one of things I love about my Droid is not being tied into a bloated GUI based program just to transfer music like my *cough*Zune*cough* needs. Just drag and drop using Explorer (or in my case Directory Opus) and done with it. I so love my Droid.

You're lucky you're in a hotspot. I'm smack dab in the middle of the only dead zone for miles for the 4g. Hope that changes by the time I'm eligible for the upgrade.

I have the HTC Hero and it works fine with video/music. Its the same as loading to an iPod, i just hook it up, drag my files onto my phone once its synced up and i'm done. Im having issues with video, however. Sprint says its because I use a linux video conversion software and not windows but whatever.

I have the Motorola Droid on Verizon and I love it. I don't download my own music on to it, I use Pandora and youtube but it works awesome with both of those...

For some reason, my MyTouch Slide won't connect to my PC. I plug it in, and nothing happens. I've tried both options of Sync and Disk Drive under Connect to PC.
