My internet connection works, I can play Portal, which I am assuming needs an internet connection, but my web browsers die after five minutes or so. I am using Google Chrome and Firefox on a (I think) five year old laptop running Vista. Please help, this is annoying.

I go to a page, and it loads... and loads... and loads...and Chrome gives me a pop-up saying the page isn't responding, and do I want to wait or kill the page. Refreshing the page doesn't do anything. Closing the window causes it to happen to my homepage. The only way I can make it respond again is to restart the computer. What if Humans are just Dire Halflings?

Another possibility is spyware. I've seen some that do not block your connection, but make it unusable enough that you cannot get your browser to connect once it gets going.
Make sure you've scanned with Malwarebytes and made sure things are clean.

If you are playing over Steam, a local copy of the game is made when you install, so you don't really play the games over the internet unless its a multiplayer game. Portal isn't, so your connection could still be down, or blocked. Second the malwarebytes' scan. If that doesn't work, you may need to check with your provider.Quoth Parrothead View PostI can play Portal, which I am assuming needs an internet connection, .The Rich keep getting richer because they keep doing what it was that made them rich.
