Hi there, odd question: I have a server blade with removable HDD slots does anyone know if all 3.5 chassis are compatible or if they have to be brand specific to the server maker?

Do you mean the caddy to place the drive into, or the drive shell itself? If the former, then it will be manufacturer based to that slot. (usually comes with it as well, though extras will need to be bought from them)Quoth wraiths_crono View Post
If the latter, it's generally standardized, though there is usually a light different in drive thickness, which can be a factor. The caddy or slot will say what the max is or you can measure it yourself (break out a metric ruler though, the standard does not recognize imperial measurements)
