  • Free and easy to use anti-virus?

I"m refurbishing some PCs for people and I'm looking for an anti-virus that is free and easy to use.

Suggestions? I've used AVG and Avast! in the past.

I've been using Microsoft security essentials for the last year or so, no problems and it can be set to just run in the background without a weekly scan if wished
      Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

i second security essentials since at least it seems to place nicely with windows (one would hope microsoft wasn't bipolar) unlike how sometimes norton and macafee decide to screw up windows.

          Edit:
Of course I just had a realization, it is also brought to you by the same people who allow half the shenanigans to be exploited in the first place
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

I also use MS Security Essentials. It seems to catch pretty much everything (although a couple of times I had to resort to MalwareBytes to do the actual cleaning -- but Security Essentials did flag the problem)

The main reason I swithced to Security Essentials in the first place is that it doesn't overload the machine... a lot of the the other AV programs work well, but they they cause the computer to slow down too much.

Avast works really well for real time protection without the bloat that slows computers down. I use it along with occasional scans from MalwareBytes on all of my machines at home and work.

Just turn off the voices in Avast... Unless you want to be able to hear everytime a virus has been stopped. Good for seeing who is surfing naughty sites at work.

I use Clamwin and MBAM for scans, no realtime protection. Both are free and if you use good browsing practices you can get by quite nicely that way.

That said, I'm female and not into porn, so I generally get myself into a lot less trouble than a guy who likes porn might.
