Machines for printing pre-pay phone credit vouchers don't come from the phone companies themselves (or you'd need a different machine for each company) but from a third party. The company that provided machines to most convenience store sin Australia went broke 3-4 months ago. Consequently, most convenience stores can't print phone credit vouchers. The other company that provides these machines has a long waiting list. All this means that we haven't been able to print any mobile phone credit vouchers and won't be able to for at least another month.

    SC: "I want a $50 Optus voucher."
Me: "We can't print any vouchers because the company that provided this machine (points at machine) went broke."
SC: "That's stupid. I bought one here yesterday."
Me: "You must be mistaken sir, we haven't been able to do any for months."
SC: "I tell you I bought one yesterday! Give me the voucher."
(more arguing, eventually he leaves without the voucher that's impossible to print)

    but to make it worse:

next SC: "That was funny! Can I please have a $50 Optus voucher?"

Obviously she wasn't paying as much attention as she thought she was.

Was the SC being serious or was she just joking? Some customers do that just to relieve the tension.

                  Edible, they really went bust?
Interesting, I haven't used a store bought credit for a while....

You at least can point out to Optus customers that you may now purchase credit online through their website.

That's what i do...its so much easier and faster. But i feel your pain......

I told her we couldn't do it because the company that provided the machine went broke, she said "OK I'll try the Optus shop" and left without buying anything. So I think she really was serious.

Yep, DialTime went broke. Of course the first we knew about it was when the machine started refusing every transaction. Epay are in the same business, they're the ones with the huge waiting list.

I tell people to try the Optus/Telstra/Vodaphone store.
