I'd like to know how they didn't notice over $200,000 missing every year...
I don't remember the details and probably didn't understand them even when they were freshly reported (there's a reason I'm not in bookkeeping, LOL), but she was finagling the records in such a way that yes, it did show their circulation revenue was dropping, but it looked as though the cause was fewer subscriptions ... not somebody pocketing a truckload of ca$h every year. She finally got caught when, for some reason, she actually did take time off and of course they brought someone in on a temp basis to cover ...

You will probably not be surprised to hear that, according to the rumour mill, when the temp first noticed massive discrepancies, nobody believed her. They thought she was screwing up.

Hah. I found a PBS video on them here: http://www.azpbs.org/checkplease/seg...nt.php?id=5510

I love how she says "the concept of our restaurant is mainly farm fresh organic food made from scratch." Well we all know now that her idea of "scratch" is to buy store-bought stuff and then claim she made it herself.

I don't have the tolerance to watch the rest of this though.

And yes, I'll be checking up for updates on the reopening. Several people on one of my other message boards are in the area and I think are planning on checking it out.

By the way, there are a few petitions on the White House website relating to ABC...

    One is here:

    Another is here:

There may be more, I just didn't look.

You can see where this is going. When she was finally caught, it was found she'd embezzled $2.2 million from the paper.

With the amount of negative publicity that this place has gotten ....
Dangit! You just reminded me of an old news business adage: "There is no such thing as bad publicity."

As evidence of that...Before all of this kerfluffle broke out, there were probably a few thousand people in that town who had heard of the place *at all*, and few hundred more from out of town/state. Now, pretty much TEH INT3RN3T$ knows about them, and sooner or later, some will get curious. If they're still around in five years, most of those who've heard of them will stop in because they remember that the place IS (in)famous, but not WHY.

    *snip*
For me the POS is the most damning. My accountant spider senses tingled when he said he was the only one allowed to use it. Most companies require their cash handlers to have their drawers double counted both at beginning and end of shift, and accountants are as a general rule required to take mandatory vacations when their work can be checked free of interference. Samy is ensuring that no one is checking cash or accounting records... which really screams out that either he has some massive trust issues, or he's hiding something.
Second this. One paper where I worked had a woman working in the circulation department who didn't take a vacation or indeed any time off for a decade or more, thus never needing a temporary replacement for her position. The nice owners believed in the "one big happy family" approach and apparently that never sent up warning flares.

You can see where this is going. When she was finally caught, it was found she'd embezzled $2.2 million from the paper.

So yeah, either he's controlling in a VERY big way, or there's something very fishy going on.

Here's the latest. They are hosting a job fair and looking to hire 30.

Grand re-opening tomorrow (Tuesday the 21st). Let's see how that goes.

It *has* to be because Samy was already rich going into it. I'll bet the only reason is because he can afford to keep financing it. (Unless it *is* that whole money-laundering thing...but that's a pretty big speculative leap at this point imo)
First off, and completely off topic, but your avatar is far too appropriate for this thread

Now, as to the money-laundering being a big leap... it is, but it might not be nearly as big of a leap as you think. Let's examine the (admittedly circumstancial) evidence, the restaurant has stayed open despite not having a customer base to support it, Samy is the only one allowed to use the POS, and the couple has had criminal charges for bank fraud before.

I wonder if being charged with stolen work/pictures has caused this change.

I for one, having had a batshit crazy mother who acted like Amy and worse, dont believe it. I believe it was the PR person she hired. Actually, I'm more inclined to believe that he's taken over the tumblr account.

We'll see what happens at their grand re-opening.

Also, if anybody has been following Amy on Tumblr, she appears to have 'turned over a new leaf': http://amybouzagloofficial.tumblr.com/ I don't believe it for a second, personally, but perhaps the PR person she hired is making her do this.
It's not impossible. If she saw herself on TV and saw how awfully she'd behaved, maybe she was embarrassed enough to realize she brought it onto herself. She did mention therapy and anger management classes on Tumblr; I hope she does take them.

People can and do change. It takes a lot of effort, and sometimes it falls through, but it's a worthy endeavor, especially when it does work. If Amy is truly seeking to change herself for the better, I wish her the best of luck. (And I hope Samy does the same. They should both be doing this together.)

Somewhere along the lines she has admitted to buying and repackaging all those desserts but that is now deleted, naturally.
It's probably been saved on Reddit though. They've been taking screencaps of everything.
