Are they worried that Josh could claim wrongful termination for being fired right after being given a substantial raise? 'cuz that's what Stuart was worried about (see the conversation between him and Marla, linked above) and I assume if Stuart is concerned about it, it's a legit thing that Josh could, in fact, actually sue them for.

It's a comic strip; the cartoonist can do whatever he/she wants. They can make laws apply or not apply.Quoth MoonCat View PostAnyone else having homicidal feelings toward the commenters who keep going on about "unlawful termination" or whatever? How many times does one have to point out that there is no law against firing someone when they give their two-week notice? In fact, it's very common for management to tell the employee that they have to leave immediately. Yet these yahoos keep saying "oh Josh is going to sue them!" Arrgh....
It's really a form of humor impairment. Instead of recognizing that it's a totally fictional environment, people apply their own reality to it.
But to answer the question, assuming at-will employment, Josh could've been fired for any reason or no reason at all and there is no wrongful termination, unless it was discriminatory. And last I checked, controlling, self-righteous jerks weren't a protected class. But if you get people on the jury who feel sorry for "the little guy" and rule in his favor just to "make a statement".....Last edited by Irving Patrick Freleigh; 01-17-2014, 10:14 AM.Knowledge is power. Also he would have to answer some uncomfortable questions under oath about the circumstances of his raise and interviews with the rival store.Quoth Irving Patrick Freleigh View PostBut to answer the question, assuming at-will employment, Josh could've been fired for any reason or no reason at all and there is no wrongful termination, unless it was discriminatory.
