Gordon Ramsey is my #1 all-time favorite chef ... only because I consider Alton Brown to be a food scientist and not a "chef".

Random interesting fact about Ramsay:
He was a footballer in training with Glasgow Rangers (One of Scotland's biggest clubs). A injury cut his career and Rangers told him that they weren't going to sign him but he had a chance to play in lower divisions but he decided to focus on cooking then being known as the footballer with "the gammy knee."The Grand Galactic Inquisitor hears all and sees all.

There's another clip on YouTube where one of the tables (same table from one of the 3-part clips) orders a pizza and has it delivered. JP goes off on them about not being educated and the guy starts talking about his PhD in MUSIC .. hahahahahahahaha, oh, I nearly broke Rule #1 on that one.

Chef Ramsey did apologize to the guy and let him know that they're 7 tables behind and will do their best to serve the customers and him as well. Apparently that SC wasn't having it because he wanted his first and pretty much right away like an EW and wasn't buying Chef Ramsey's apology. So I think it was fair that Chef Ramsey did give the response he did to that SC (that I wish I could've during my days as a Hostess).I don't get paid enough to kiss your a**! -Groezig 5/31/08

No, I think it's pretty much habit at this point. He doesn't intentionally swear at someone unless they deserve it though.Quoth RayvenQ View PostRamsey only swears when people aren't doing a good a job as they are supposed to, or are being asshats about things, both employee and customer alike.
There's an episode of Ramsey's Kitchen Knightmares (UK) where he worked with an alchoholic head chef and put out a kitty bank. The deal was every time the chef had a drink or went for a smoke, the chef would put in 50 pence. When Ramsey swore, he had to put in 50 pence.
Ramsay lost a fair bit of cash that night.

I understand that there are waits. But when something starts pushing an hour, let alone nearly 3 hours, I'd be gone too.Military Spouse Support.

Well, it's hell kitchen. Of course you're going to wait, nothing is quick in a T.V. show. It just seem like it to the viewer.
I doubt you will wait for a hour in his restaurants, unless something really bad happen or you pissed off the waiter.I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.

Oh HELL no. The guy on Hell's Kitchen was sucky, but it takes just as much hard work to get a PhD in music as it does any other academic field. Modified for clarification purposes.Quoth JuniorMintz View PostThe guy on Hell's Kitchen was sucky, but it takes nearly as much hard work to get a PhD in music as it does in almost any other academic field.
I think marasbaras is not counting music practice as "hard work", but for some people the practice of music is very hard. These people are most often known as "non-music majors". Music (and other arts) degrees take more talent than, say, physics (or other science) degrees, generally speaking. It's tough to teach someone to have a perfect ear who doesn't already have the talent for it. It is much more reasonable to teach someone kinematics who has no working knowledge of it. That part of music and arts study is less about learning from instruction and more about predisposition toward the field, since it is unlikely that diligent study will make up for a lack of talent in the arts.
As for the aforementioned diligent study, which I think is what marasbaras means by a "real" degree, there is much more essential material to be learned in physics (for example) than in music, and so generally more study is required, so by the amount of study needed, a physics or mathematics degree can be seen as "harder" or more "real". Is it still difficult to get a Ph.D in music? Certainly. Ph.D's are a lot of work. Hard work, even, regardless of their field. The rest of my statements regarding the relative difficulty of academics should be saved for Fratching, since I'm very opinionated on the subject (as I'm sure most of you know) and I don't want to stir up trouble here.
I don't deny that the customer in question is an asshat, however, and casually suggest that the conversation return to such agreeable topics as SC dillweedery before the thread gets locked."I'm not a crazed gunman, dad, I'm an assassin... Honestly I wouldn't eat at Hell's Kitchen till at leas episode 4 or 5 when the teams are starting to get their shiat together. =p
Going in on the first few episode nights and actually expecting food on time? Clearly you've never watched the show before or even glanced at the description of it, hehe.
6 people with some to no training cooking a menu ( A fine dining menu at that ) they've never seen before in a kitchen they've never worked in before under a chef with some of the highest standards in the world? Yeah, I'd hold off a few episodes before going there. ;p
