She then called home office to try to get us in trouble for discriminating against her when he wouldn’t order me to fix the computer.
But of course... MOST (if not all) computer repair stores discriminate against... people who piss on their computers.

Didn't say if it was human urine or not - could have been the cat (or rabbit). If computer places won't work on a pissed-on machine, how are you supposed to get it fixed (or at least recover the data) if the cat decides it should be the only "laptop" in the house?
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

You know, it never occurred to me it could be pet urine. I just couldn't imagine why someone would piss on their computer though, but since I read this site, it didn't totally surprise me.

I guess it depends on whether the customer wanted to pay for a least data recovery (in which she would be directed to an independent repair shop AFTER she had sanitzed the affected areas) or wanted it covered by warranty.

            • hmm. never thought about an animal peeing on it. but still... yeah most places "discriminate" against customers with urine-contaminated electronics.

not really sure how you "sanitize" for that either. It's not as if you can drop it in the wash. Maybe alcohol, but even then I wouldn't guarantee the contents of the drive. and when I looked up how to clean a drive it's all about erasing them, not actually ... cleaning them from debris.

My first encounter with tales of pissed-on computers was someone's Mac laptop that was sent in for warranty repair (symptoms: Didn't work). Tech opened it up and found suspicious liquid, called customer to tell them that liquid damage wasn't covered under warranty, and asked if they had a cat. Customer said they didn't, but they did have a rabbit (hence reference in my previous post). Customer elected to pay for repair rather than junk the machine. When the repair was complete, tech called back to let them know, and to remind them to keep the rabbit away from the computer. (blanked for benefit of the squeamish)Customer said the rabbit "tasted like chicken".(end blanking)

                • Well... there is that solution too.

oh and what a jerk: http://notalwaysworking.com/running-...-harrier/29757
I'd like to see how fast the employee learned Chinese if he/she went to China to live. I'd bet they'd have just as much (if not more) trouble learning it.

I use to have one in silver too. It fell off my hand and was lost. ... bit ironic that.

I was thinking something like drying up the liquids (according to the article, the liquid was clearly visible and smelt badly) and then lightly dab the areas that won't be further damaged by liquids, like, for instance, the air intake propel) with a Q-tip slightly damp with alcohol. Fixing the drive is the tech's job, making sure there are no health hazards for the tech in order for him/her to fix the drive is the customer's job.

                    • actually, assuming the HD is disconnected from power, you CAN generally use water on it- for example, you can actually put keyboards through a dishwasher w/o ruining them.So you should be able to use soap and water on a computer to clean off urine without ruining the computer.

                      • um... i personally wouldn't put my faith in that.
if it's not completely dry when you reconnect then it'll not work. plus, you don't know if the water is leaving behind any trace elements that will eventually corrode electronics.

not to mention the urine has possibly already done permanent damage anyway, especially if it was on when it was peed on

for cleaning keyboards themselves i've always done the .mil version - unplug them, clean them off with a qtip* & isopropyl alcohol, and then let them completely dry before reinserting.

*well not really a qtip, more like a "cotton tipped applicator" which usually has a 6-inch shaft (less flexible, better for scrubbing), and can be purchased for much cheaper than the ones we jam into our ears

I'm not sure I'd want to know what a "sausage milk" would be anyway. Cos I have some ideas and they're very NSFW

Although it does remind me of issues I use to always get when ordering a salad at a certain sandwich store. I don't know if it was my voice (it can be quiet) or the workers but... I swear sometimes I had to say "SAL-AD" and point at the lettuce before people realized I didn't want a sandwich.

and an old unfiltered one i couldn't help comment on...
LW goes on about how the cashier couldn't figure out that 20-13=7.... while making frequent spelling & grammar mistakes. Bit ironic, that.

This one reminds me of my mother actually. When she was growing up, the librarian would do this to her, especially when it came to adult-level books. So when I was growing up she would let me read what I wanted. And, according to Mom, if the librarian looked at her as if to say, "This is ok?" she'd just nod.

This one's actually a fail. The author goes on about how the employee kept saying "we outta eggs" when asking for "eggplant parmesan sandwich"

except... from every recipe i've looked at so far, eggplant parmesan does have egg in it too. So the employee might have been correct after all.
