Some time ago, I saw (Reddit, IRRC) a tale about how someone REALLY got back at a telemarketer. They were a tech who installed phone systems, and they recognized some tones the system gave when it hit the "OK I've got a live person on the line - do I have a free marketer to talk to them?" stage (BTW, I *HATE* the arrogance of them not only disturbing me, but that they feel their staff's time is too valuable to waste on dialing and waiting for someone to pick up, so they have a machine dial, and if their target picks up they expect the TARGET to wait until someone is available to push useless crap on them).

What is sad is that I once had two employees who thought this way, and got pissed off when they were not paid for their entire shift. They thought it was perfectly acceptable to walk in over an hour late or show up on time but leave 2-3 hours early. I told them both point blank that they would only ever get paid for the hours they actually worked anywhere they worked. I don't know where they got the idea that working less than their scheduled hours meant that they still got paid for all of their scheduled hours. But after that they weren't my problem anymore.Comment

I mean I don't care what level your membership is, my reservation is my reservation. If I made a reservation with a hotel and then someone after me calls in and gets my reservation canceled because they have a higher membership and the hotel doesn't even call me to let me know my reservation was changed or canceled I'd take my business elsewhere too.Interviewer: What is your greatest weakness?

Maybe the hotel did call; NAR does edit those for length. But unless the initial reservation was explicitly tentative (in the same manner as standby tickets from an airline), I agree that the bump policy is sucky.Quoth gremcint View PostComment

This story here is sadly accurate. The items we have had customers attempt to fill up with fuel are as follows: plastic milk bottle, small 7up bottle, plastic carrier bag, watering can, bucket, glass milk bottle. And my brother, who used to work in a petrol station, once had a customer who wanted to fill a potty with petrol. Needless to say, we refused every one and then weathered the storm of SC outrage that followed our suggestion to buy a £4.99 jerry instead.
