This reminds me of a navy "accident"

Some of our more junior sailors were cleaning out the scullery(Giant dishwasher) with simple green. They finally got all the grime off and without rinsing decided to sanitize the equipment with liberal amounts of bleach. At this point I should mention that the exhaust fans for the scullery are rather close to the bridge.

The ship went to general quarters because of the chlorine gas attack on the bridge. Since the XO's and CO's cabins were right behind the bridge they were not very happy to be kicked out of there quarters either.

I have to agree with the CO's actions of banning bleach in the mess decks. We had stainless steel everywhere and bleach destroys the oxide layer of stainless steel.

Nope, mustard gas is made from exactly as it says, mustard. You see, heating up a mixture of water and ground mustard seeds causes a chemical reaction that forms an irritant odour which increases in intensity very quickly, hits a sinus searing peak, then starts to drop off. Putting an acid in stops the reaction at that level. Most commercial mustard has the acid (in the form of a vinegar) added either immediately or very quickly, stopping the reaction at a pungent, but not toxic level. Mustard gas on the other hand doesn't have the acid applied until it's at maximum potency, if it's applied at all.

when I saw the photo I wondered if that was the victim with her hair burned off from the chemical attack

only to see that no, that's the attacker. with a rather unusual hairstyle
