I am completely on Tesco's side on this one. Employees have the right to do their jobs without being assaulted. And nobody has the right to abuse (physically or verbally) anybody else, no matter how old that person is.

Looks like a lot of the letter-writers are also in agreement with Tesco.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Agreed, or as I once put it to my wife about a similar incident: At what age is one no longer subject to the rules of civilized behavior?
Needless to say, she had no answer.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Not sure about whether this is the case or not in the UK, but I suspect that she was using "Yorkshire-bred" to mean that she wasn't a chav/trailer trash/redneck and instead was a "proper" woman.

But yes, I would also congratulate Tesco for this.
People from Yorkshire have a reputation for being blunt speaking and not being afraid to say what is on their minds.

The story must be true as there is no way that any store would ban someone as old as her for no reason at all, and if you read the comments there are plenty of people who say that from their experience of working in retail the elderly are the most rudest.

rereading the article... this made me laugh

The pensioner said: 'I will never go to the Tesco store again, but I want an apology.'
You're right. You'll never go to the Tesco store again ... because you were BANNED. It's not as if you have a choice in the matter here. Trying to play it off like "i'll never shop there again!" eh?

Apparently Yorkshire people have a reputation for being blunt and to the point. (Sounds like I'd like 'em!) But I think she is using said reputation as a cover for the fact that she was a raging douchegranny.

Virtually a lock that she tries to go shop there again. Wondering what the betting pool is like on when she actually tries this. Not if....when.

I would congratulate Tesco in this, for standing up for their employees.
Just because she's elderly and "Yorkshire-bred" (what, is that supposed to be a euphemism for "rude and nasty"?) doesn't give her leave to treat others like dirt. She needs to put on her big-girl panties, take responsibility for her behaviour and make some changes.
                Oh, and stop whining.
