I am completely on Tesco's side on this one. Employees have the right to do their jobs without being assaulted. And nobody has the right to abuse (physically or verbally) anybody else, no matter how old that person is.

Looks like a lot of the letter-writers are also in agreement with Tesco.

Agreed, or as I once put it to my wife about a similar incident: At what age is one no longer subject to the rules of civilized behavior?

People from Yorkshire have a reputation for being blunt speaking and not being afraid to say what is on their minds.

The story must be true as there is no way that any store would ban someone as old as her for no reason at all, and if you read the comments there are plenty of people who say that from their experience of working in retail the elderly are the most rudest.

I would congratulate Tesco in this, for standing up for their employees.
Just because she's elderly and "Yorkshire-bred" (what, is that supposed to be a euphemism for "rude and nasty"?) doesn't give her leave to treat others like dirt. She needs to put on her big-girl panties, take responsibility for her behaviour and make some changes.
Oh, and stop whining.
