One of my few memories of Everquest (the original) was in the plane of Hate. Getting a group was generally no issue as I was a good enchanter, that didn't freak out when I got hit. However, I was just the minimum level to get into the plane, and most groups wanted an enchanter that was near level cap (at the time). I was in a small guild, so the guild couldn't raid the plane either. For a long time I tried and tried to get a group, but to no avail. I got lucky and got into a major raid because they had NO enchanters at the time. My job was to sit way in the back and keep the priests and such spelled up so they gained mana faster. Somebody Leroy Jenkins (before there was a Leroy Jenkins) the place and we had a multitude of adds. Crowd Control was the secondary function of any enchanter. Pretty much single handedly (as there was no other enchanters) I kept the crowd of creatures sitting there staring into space spell twisting like no tomorrow. My mana tapped out just as I was able to memblur the last creature in the adds, and the whole group took it down quick. Never had any trouble getting a group in Hate after that.

Were you on Nameless? This sounds like the PoHate raid my warrior there was a part of...til I went LD from all the crap firing off around me and I think kept moving in the direction I was stepping when it considered me LD...

(I was on dialup shared to 5 machines at the time, this wasn't the norm but so many ppl really stressed that poor connection to the max...)

I actually do not remember which server I was on. All I do know is that in Everquest enchanters were kind of rare..and GOOD Enchanters were treated like gold.

The worst thing about his death in Fallout 3? A friend of mine spoiled it for me, but right around the time you're reunited with him, I convinced myself it wouldn't happen. I tried to will him un-dead.

Sometimes, I like to think the reason you don't see his body is because he somehow survived, either by the magic powers you exhibited by surviving (if you got broken steel or the goty edition) or he became a ghoul.

But then I remember, if you sit at just the right angle, you can loot his corpse.

You can't do that to alive people. (Well you can, but it's quite rude.)

            Immortal Gaming Moment:

            (Mission begins.)

DIVE DIVE DIVE!!! HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!

(A six-kilometre-long enemy warship warps out while you frantically scramble out of it's way.)

That was a little too close. We gotta wait fifteen minutes to change our shorts. Well, we've detected the Shivan presence all right...
Which leads me directly to my Game Recommendation:

Freespace 2. More precisely, the vast compendium of mods and add-on campaigns that exist on the Freespace Open engine, which is still under active development over a dozen years after the game was originally released. FSO runs perfectly happily on modern versions of Windows, MacOS X, and Linux - all you need is a decently working OpenGL driver and a copy of the original retail game files.

I am not much of a gamer, but in the new Tomb Raider game, the Coastal Forest level requires you to sneak through the forest and quietly take out your enemies. If you are spotted, they ALL come after you, and release some wolves as well.

I do not do well with stealth levels. I was spotted immediately. I hadn't had a chance to take a single person out yet.

EVERYONE swarmed after me. Whoops. I'm dead. And yet...somehow...I managed to fight my way through. My aim is typically terrible in games like this, too. Hubs was watching me laughing, and then was shocked when it was all over. He was all "Who are you and what did you do to my wife?" I'm still not sure how I managed to pull that off, but it was an epic battle.

Another fun thing in that game: hunting deer with exploding arrows. Those things will blow up way into the air! I spent far too much time blowing up deer and laughing hysterically. I am a bad person.

I'll have to try Dark Seed.
Is it still available for platform? I actually still have a couple Amigas [a 1000 and a 500] and the game knocking around.

                ROFLMAO

One of the odd benefits of being a GM is being more or less unkillable, and being able to instaport to any location at will - we were sneaking around the planes sightseeing before they opened to players. I can remember ghosting around watching parties progress through the different planes.

My main toon back in the day 60 was the top level was a combat cleric from sheer need - I pretty much soloed my way to 60. I think other than my guild helping me get my water sprinkler I might have done 3 or 4 groups. When I hit 60 I ended up having more time off, and getting weekends off so I hooked up with 4 other guild clerics and we used to do interesting shit. I loved my Inspecter Gadget armor The chestplate of donal was in combination with the watersprinkler kicked ass for saving people. Getting the timing right on all the assorted healing spells in combat was always a great headspace rush.

I always liked getting into a group groove, where everything seems to go right, all the spells cook off properly, and everything works together like a well oiled machine. Though there is a certain adrenaline rush to one of those dungeon runs where everything is just being saved from failure by the skin of ones teeth and lots of hard work and skill. I think the one good thing that GW2 has gotten right is that with certain boss mob events there is no restriction - anybody on the server in the zone can run up and join in, and share in the loot. Going after Jormag is actually one of my favorite things to do when I am bored and I notice he is up and people are headed over.

The up side and down side of the game is that there are no UI mods you can do, and the spell order that is laid out in the UI is not what I would choose to have them in. I like being able to tweak my spell order, and use the number keys. I traditionally have had my personal favorite for the level healing spell as #8 and my favorite attack macro order as numbers 1-5. But one learns to deal or one stops gaming online

I think my most epic moment in gaming was during a game of Starcraft Brood Wars. I was playing a shared islands game, which meant my team was on one large island, and the enemy was on another, with no bridges. Early in the game, first one teammate dropped, then another, while the enemy players still remained. I was going to despair and give up, when I noticed that one of my allies had been Zerg, and the other was Terran. And I, happily enough, was Protoss and could make Dark Templars...
The other side was overconfident and took their sweet time coming at me. By the time they did, they were met with a solid WALL of Spore Colonies, Missile Towers, and Photon Cannons. After their fleet was decimated by my defenses, I moved in on them...with a wing or two of Protoss Carriers, backed by a couple Terran Wraith and Valkyrie Squadrons, and several Battlecruiser squadrons, screened by a few squadrons each of Zerg Devourers and Guardians to mop up (I had hit max pop cap in all three races.) I ended up winning a 3v1 match thanks to the happy chance of choosing the one race that could mind control my fallen allies' units and resurrect them under my control.
                  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would have to say one of my favorite games of all time is Empire Earth and especially the expansion, Art of Conquest. I really enjoyed the multiplayer in that game, with its depth and yet at the same time ease of play. Plus, being able to play in any era of human history, including the future, was a lot of fun and made each different type of game unique. Being able to play customized scenarios that changed things up still more was just icing on the cake. I miss the days when the servers were up, as it's almost impossible to get a good AoC game going anymore.

I can't remember what plane it was on (been a while), but one of the major enemies in one of them had a Death Touch. Supposedly unavoidable mechanic, he would point at a random person and they would just die.

Note how I said supposedly unavoidable. One of our guild mates, Tykin, somehow managed to time a kick just perfectly and it interrupted the DT. He still brags about it to this day in every MMO/game we play together.

Grr don't know why it won't let me edit my last post...but also reading the Enchanter story reminds me a lot about my healing experience in every MMO I've played I generally have ended up in smaller guilds everywhere except for WoW, and have trouble finding a group...right up until all hell breaks loose, and people see what I can handle

I still have people from as far back as DAoC that send me random emails asking if I'm playing a specific MMO, just because they're going to want a healer and want to /ginvite me early...

my "best" gaming moment was probably a STS9CCG sealed deck tournament. everyone got a starter and 2 booster packs to build a deck for fun and prizes. the sealed deck touneys tended to be more fun because you werent dealing with people to tweaked their deck to a fare thee well.

anyways. i open my first booster pack. and i get the ultra rare USS Defiant chase card! so 3 am happy already. i open my second booster. much to my shock i see a SECOND Defiant!

i didnt win the actual play of the tourney(i think i came in 5th) but I was declared the unofficial winner for my amazing luck.

That is some pretty awesome luck. I played in a Magic: The Gathering sealed pack tourney once and ended up with a Skithiryx (aka "Skittles") card, which if played well is pretty devastating to your opponent. There was also an Edrazi in one of the EDH precon decks that I (and everyone else at the table) was surprised to get.

So lately my partner and I have been playing the worms series. We have worms revolution on our respective computers.

The more or less epic moment we had the other day involved a very badly thrown grenade that resulted in massive chaos. Just one long chain of events, with mines or flame barrels being blown up one at a time and eventually resulting in the loss of two of my partners worms. The kicker?
He was the one that threw the grenade.

As for gaming recommendations, if you like city building and want something a little different, I wholeheartedly recommend the tropico series, particularly 3 and 4. You are the presidente of a small Caribbean/Latin American island and are required to build a city from the ground up. The level of detail and the realism in the game is absolutely amazing. You can pay havoc with your citizens lives or try and run a strong economy while at the same time having to juggle threats from the us or the Soviet Union (the game is set in the Cold War period) along with civil disputes involving rebel attacks, coups, uprisings and what have you. As for the detail, if you zoom into say, the fire station, it will actually have "fire station" written above it. Zoom into a tenement and it will show where the citizens come in and out. Zoom into the docks and it'll show crates ready to be loaded onto a ship.

I also love the nancy drew series. It's more or less a "whodunit" story of sorts that can be played out, but the series always likes to throw you into just about every situation possible. And the culprit isn't always the one you suspect either and their motives are always amusing (for instance one story involved a guy who was setting up fake hauntings at a ryokan to scare away the guests mostly because he felt that the family needed to move on from the death of his girlfriends mother and it was clear that they hadn't)
The best professors are mad scientists! -Zoom

                            Now queen of USSR-Land...

You have one letter too many there. A good chanter was GOD, lol. Prized, sought after, hunted down and hounded.

Over the years I switched mains multiple times, trying to make a go as warrior, then monk, then ranger, before finally settling in for good as mage. These days it's a tie between mage and SK for me.
