I am so glad that it's NEXT weekend that we will be out in the fields, literally yards from the south coast, running around attacking things...

Yeah, A friend has to ride 5 miles to work in that tomorrow.... on a push bike. Luckily I don't have to go out tomorrow as I'm still home sick.

        Everyone stay safe.
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

My Twitter feed (which contains a number of railway personalities) is probably going to light up due to that. Felled trees and tangled "knitting" (overhead wires), most likely.

Current forecast for my bit of the world is the worst will hit at about 03:00 Monday morning. Hopefully my conservatory will hold up to the winds...

We've had strong winds already for Sat/Sun. In the south the coastal areas are getting the worst of it...luckily ok here so far, but we'll see how things go overnight. Everyone stay safe!

Sounds like most of the railway services are shutting down or running severely restricted services tomorrow morning, at least until a clearer picture of potential damage is available. Best advice is to stay home and keep up to date with the news.

The storm is also possibly due to hit here a couple of days later, but with any luck it'll be a lot weaker after having crossed some land.

It now has a name: Storm St.Jude. Not sure when it's arriving-Torbay and Exeter are right up against the sea-my house is ooh 20 yards from the edge of the beach max and the wind can certainly pick up around the bay and down the Exe. But so far,a bit windy,a few waves on the canal.Nothing thrilling....

                      From Twitter:

We are at standstill. Driver tells us he can see a train heading north with a tree on top of it.
Yup, that sounds serious. Luckily trains are pretty tough vehicles.

One of 29 trees blocking routes across our network. This one is at Dorchester South.

St. Jude storm seems over here in Southampton.

National Rail website and app both crashed this morning; not surprised. No trains were running until 11 at the earliest from Eastleigh so I got a bus in instead; I'm only an hour late! According to the rail folk at the door there were 26 trees on the line - number may have gone up - and they were using some kind of special icebreaker train to clear them.

We have no damage thankfully, but it was a bit scary listening to that last night while unable to sleep. There are new small lakes in all the dips and the parks near Southampton Guildhall were littered with branches.

The "icebreaker" train *might* be a snowplough. The ploughs used in Britain are plain, wedge-shaped lumps of metal on wheels - most dating back to the steam era - so could feasibly be used to push more solid things out of the way, with care.

Or it might just be a DMU full of men with chainsaws. Take your pick.

Here's what one train found across the line today. I understand this was a train travelling deliberately slowly to examine the track for just this sort of obstacle, so no damage caused. I know only one of the headlamps is lit - that's normal.

I'm in work now; some others haven't managed to get in yet. A colleague has had his house flooded
