  • Canada's Worst Driver

Yay for a new season I guess. Now I've become addicted to that show and I fully blame whoever introduced me to it (it was on this forum btw )

I'm a little surprised that they chose to graduate Ian, but I guess they had to graduate SOMEBODY this episode. I don't know why they thought George deserved to graduate, he's an arrogant arse who needs to wake up to the fact that bullying others is not the way to go.

From the looks of it, the distracted driver challenge is next episode. And it looks like either Jason was given glasses or someone lent him THEIR glasses (which is a big no-no) to prove that yes, Jason, you do need glasses dammit!

Love this show, and it has improved my driving. I was edging on to be one of those road bullies for a number of years (no I didn't tailgate or try to push people off the road, but I would get really angry when people weren't driving fast enough to suit, slowed down for corners etc). Watching this has made me realize that a lot of people simply are not skilled enough to do what I would want them to be doing, and to take some responsibility as someone for whom driving came fairly easy to make it easier for others on the road. (I'm still not good with an automatic in the snow and ice though).

As for Ian, I don't know about that decision, I have seen other years where they didn't graduate someone for a couiple episodes, I would have thought they could hold off one week. Definitely a better choice than George though, he hasn't learned about the problem with other drivers yet. Once he sees his classmates in action more he might realize there are a lot of people out there without the skills to deal with his actions.
Pain and suffering are inevitable...misery is optional.

I really wish that they would find a way to make Mariah see what driving drunk is like "when sober" (ie give her drunk goggles). Given her attitude towards drink driving, it was thoroughly satisfying watching Andrew take her down a peg when she rocked up.

They probably didn't want to 'waste' their save so early in the season. Ian, while he could stand some more lessons in general, seemed more self-aware than the others at least. I'm not entirely comfortable with letting him go, but I can mostly understand why.

George I suspect they wanted to keep at least until the distracted driving challenge. While being a Rager, he's also a cell-user, and that challenge is where they'll either see the light or show they have a long ways to go. I almost wish they did the Distracted Driving test before Eye of the Needle; but when you get right down to it, Eye is a much more fundamental driving challenge.

A Drunk Goggles challenge would be a good idea; I wonder if they might be cooking one up for her (or to add to their challenges in general, like Car Hockey/Curling got added).

Jason is so blind that any glasses would probably be some improvement, at least for the duration of a challenge. Really it might be more appropriate for him to stop driving entirely. Either he gets proper glasses and leaves in the middle, or he goes blind for the rest of the season and gets Second Worst in the end.

Seeing all those clips from Season 1 makes me wish they'd do another Winter season. Sadly, I doubt they ever will, since they have more control over the course in the summer; but winter challenges are just so much more challenging.

Well from next weeks previews, it looks like Jason is either going to get glasses or is using someone else's glasses (the latter is a big nono because everyone's prescription is different) as he's seen wearing them.

Speaking of the car hockey challenge, I wound up watching mike butt introduce it himself (he makes a pretty good Andrew clone ) and then wound up re watching it when Andrew decided to channel don cherry and was basically a wiseass for 10 minutes. (Not that he isn't a wiseass otherwise )

So, after watching this week's episode, I can't really refute the decision. Santana's problem was her inability to focus, once she managed it she performed a lot better. I do think George is being held back until he has to deal with what he puts others through (aka the bullying).

I also think Andrew is enjoying George's umm, unusual education method a little too much.

Andrew tends to enjoy anyone's "unusual" thinking methods a little too much. Even on Canada's Worst Handyman, he's been known to rib some of the contestants (gently) about their failure to read instructions.

Andrew practically embodies the "Deadpan snarker" trope.

Andrew has always had Epic levels of Snarking.

Which, considering he's a Newfie to begin with, means it's only a couple of levels above the newfie average.

And he is enjoying George's corrective action methods a bit much.

Next week's the water challenge, so I don't think they'll be able to address George's attitude much in that one, but they should be able to let someone else go clear.

I suspect Andrew's a bit sad to see the other newfie go. She was a good graduate this time, but like the Caper, he probably likes having a familiar face/accent around.

I think Chanie's little incident during the 'distracted driving' test was a huge wake-up call for her. (Did you see the look on Andrew's face when he saw that?)

Once they fit Jason with proper glasses, he'll probably be gone right away.

I figure the final three will be Siham, Mariah and Tyler, with George being a close 4th.

                      I've been wrong before.

Jason does have proper glasses now, but it didn't help much. Still he does need to get used to being able to see again. The Optometrist said he had 50 inch vision or something? (What normal people see clearly at 20 ft, he can't see clearly at 50 inches or so?) He'll probably be a late middle pack graduate I suspect.

And yes, that accident during the distracted driving test was a wakeup call for everyone who saw it I think. Andrew's been visibly scared very few times on the show, but that was one of them. (Which goes to show how much he cares for these drivers too IMO)

It's not just Worst Driver, he does it on Worst Handyman too.

On the fourth series, one of the contestants got booted for making violent threats against another contestant. Andrew was very visibly and audibly shaken when getting rid of the guy.

He was also very shaken about halfway through one of the later episodes (same series) when one guy starts getting visibly upset and swings his hammer in large arcs, causing everyone to jump back and Andrew to actually duck back and cover his face (didn't help that he was in full swinging range of his hammer).

Despite the "Oh crap" moments, you can tell that he enjoys himself on the shows he hosts...on Handyman, there was one episode where the contestants had to refit and glaze their own window. How did Andrew introduce this? By vandalizing everyone's original window.

ETA: And now I've watched the episode. Holy crap Chanie....>.>
Jason's story is quite sad as I've also had family members who have glaucoma, so I have to suffer through the stupid puff test whenever I get an eye exam. (which basically shoots a gentle puff of air into your eyeballs, but you have to keep them open)

It was 50 Centimeters or about 19.5 inches.

I think things will get better for Jason. Now that his eyes have been checked, he can be treated for it.

If things keep going the way they are, I think the final two will be Tyler and George. George is the best driver of all of them, but he doesn't seem to think that his speeding and aggressive driving are a problem. People don't change things they don't see as a problem.

That's if they'll even let him drive still. The optometrist said that he would have to make a report to the MoT on this.

So I managed to finally watch the episode (because I can't get hulu or discovery, I have to wait until someone streams it) and yeah....full-on moment for Chanie. It wasn't just Andrew's face at that, the experts also had a "holy shit" look on their face too. From the sounds of it, that was a wakeup call she desperately needed. It was good to see Philippe checking on everyone's posture as well as I don't think that gets touched on the show all that much.

Speaking of the experts, I might deviate from the drivers a bit-Shamyla I think looked better with longer hair (but I love her because she does really care about the drivers-they all do) and I am also asking Philippe mentally "are you NUTS?" about his view on graduating Jason of all people.

My pick for the final 3 will be either Siham or Mariah, George and Tyler.

*-When they introduced the experts this episode, they showed what the experts looked like in ALL of their previous iterations. Cam and Shamyla have changed the most.
