  • Musicians to me!

Have a decent singing voice? Or know how to write music? Want to collaborate (everybody who does will be given equal credit, though this is not going to be a song that will be sold). I have a song.. but I've learned a couple of things. My voice can make ears bleed, and I have NO clue how to use things like Audacity to make it sound halfway passable. Warning : This is a Gospel Song.

I can sing pretty durn good, or so people keep telling me; no idea why Baritone range, and used to choir/choral singing. Best with a group.

I have Audacity (to keep things in a consistent file format) and I can do a sample or something if ya have a specific song you want me to pull a verse from.

Supposedly I sing pretty well. That's what my friends tell me, anyway. My credentials include 6-ish years as a Sweet Adeline, 7th grade choir, church choir when I was in high school, and various talent shows. Generally a lead (soprano), but I'm flexible. I actually made a side-side blog on Tumblr because I've been recording myself singing lately.

For Mytical, if you think of Sweeney Todd (either movie or Musical) a "baritone" would be Judge Turpin, a "soprano" would be Joanna. (and for everyone else's benefit, Sweeney and Anthony(?) are tenors (arguably Sweeney could be a bari), Mrs. Lovett and Lucy are both alto/mezzo-soprano and that's all I can think of.

To build on what FH said:

Highest to lowest: Soprano (female) > Alto (f) > Tenor (m) > Bass (m) (Baritone is the high end of Bass)

Some good examples can be found here. The topmost (Mariah Carey) and bottom-most (an Oktavist -- a full octave below the bottom of Bass) are extremes, though.

I'll be sending the lyrics today. I've tried to edit it so my voice won't crack trying to sing it, but so far no go. lol

Got 'em. Any idea of the style (beyond Gospel/choir-y), speed, etc you're looking for, or would you like us to just give it our best shot and see how it turns out?

Do you have a specific song/group of songs whose style you wish to emulate? If you think it would be easier to sing some yourself, just record yourself doing one verse and the chorus -- if it's starting to get too high or low for you, just shift by an octave. We can play with it and see how it comes out ^_^

Starting to get enough people in here to make a nice group sound for it

Just your best shot for now. However, I will be sending you a file of me singing the first few lines..once I figure out how. I think you all will be a better judge, because my voice always cracks lol.

I was TRYING to make it easier by providing examples

FYI, I'm somewhere around mezzo-soprano/alto. (mezzo is basically halfway between the soprano and alto) If I'm doing any choral pieces, I'll typically take the alto part as it's less strain.

Just sing whatever is comfortable for you, Mytical ^_^

Assuming you have either a mic or a headset -- Just use Sound Recorder, it's built into Windows. It's really basic and less intimidating than a proper suite like Audacity (tho a suite will be needed to mix the actual songs later on -- I can only do very basic stuff, so I am afraid I won't be much help there)

Make sure the mic/headset is active, Go to the Start Menu, and type:

                      sound

                      or

                      sndrec

-- The "sound Recorder" should appear at the top of the menu. Click that Record button, then start singing. Hit Stop when done and save the resulting WAV file -- the controls look like those on a tape recorder or video player. Make a few different files (we'll never tell! ) and upload the one or two you are most comfortable with to Youtube or something; just make them Private and send us the link -- people without the link won't be able to access the "vids"

I'll try and do a verse or two myself this weekend to see if it's what yer looking for

I have mixing gear that could help. I can't promise that I'll be amazing at it, but if you tell me what you want the results to be, I'll do the best I can.

For those who know what this is, I have a copy of Ableton Live 9. As far as skills, I've taken classes to understand mixing, but Live is pretty new to me.

Ok I just can not figure out how to send this file. So.. I am sending those interested my Skype account name. Don't know how much it will help, but will sing a few bars in what I am aiming for, with the understanding that if they have better music to fit it, that is great

Mytical, I'll add you as a contact.

Do you have any lyrics? You could send them via Skype. (I say this because last I knew, Skype stayed out of trying to claim any ownership of messages sent via its service. I know you're not selling it, but I am protective of everybody's right to their stuff. )
