OH YEAH! I just remembered. I want a haori. That's a Japanese style jacket, and I want a really authentic one.

I'm too big. They don't make them in plus sizes, which is entirely understandable really. *sigh*

      As I've often mentioned, I'm build like a Valkyrie. Ho-yo To-Ho!

If I had my Nan's build (what I call 'fairy'), I'd dress in delicate fabrics and colours, like a Victorian-era fairy painting. I would SO love that!

As it is, I want to dress Victorian-era day clothes, all blouses and waistcoats and walking skirts, with the waistcoats and jackets cut princess line, and some of the jackets having small peplums, and pintuck blouses with a cameo at the neck...

I don't have the endurance to do the sewing to make my own, I don't have the money to buy the suiting and the other proper fabrics. I don't have the 'standard' shape to buy premade stuff without getting it significantly altered.

The other era that would suit my body beautifully is the 1940s looks. Not the movie stars, the 40s era women in gaberdine straight-skirt suits with matching skirt and jacket, the jacket cut princess line.
      Seshat's self-help guide:
      1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
      2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
      3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
      4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

For work, I would love to have a tailored pinstripe suit, but there's no way I could ever afford it.

Outside of work, I prefer jeans/shorts and a tshirt/tank top. Or sometimes a flowy sundress in the summer. I like to dress up for special events (like the renaissance festival), but mostly I'm a casual dresser.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

I pretty much already own the clothing I'd love to wear. The issue is just actually wearing it, since I'm required to wear a uniform (or very close to a uniform) at work (blue starched button-up shirt and black or dark navy pants).

So I think I'm going to start packing my "want to wear" shirts in my work bag (I'd pretty much be wearing dark pants anyway) and wearing them home. Even if it's just for me, even if I don't go anywhere but the occasional stop at the grocery store for TP or cat food, it's a small thing to improve my mental health.

I hear ya! I wore tights and one of my fit and flare dresses when I went to my parents once... mom was like, 'you look fancy! What's the occasion?' Me: 'No occasion! I just feel fancy!'
