When it comes to the Canadian healthcare system I find it varies from province to province and by what it is you need done. I've lived in four of provinces and they all have failures somewhere along the way. I really wish that there wasn't any wait involved for any of it, but if wishes were horses beggars would ride.

So I haven't done an update on this in a while but I thought I'd let you know whats happened. I've had a bunch of tests done and I'm happy to say

I don't have cancer.

I'm in perimenopause (the start of menopause) but that won't mean much since I'm scheduled to have a full hysterectomy on August 29. And I don't even care because I don't have cancer.

I'm so relieved there aren't even words.

Wahoo=) Grats! And I had an hysterectomy, best thing I ever got - losing the whole PCOS agony and bleeding out randomly improved my quality of life immeasurably!

This has been a truly horrible weekend. Friday night I woke up about 3:30 am covered in blood from the waste down. So glad we have a waterproof cover on the bed. I was able to stop it enough that my husband took me to the ER without incident and I was there for several hours while they observed and did tests. It slowed down, and the doctor said that I could go home but if it happened again, I needed to come back.

Saturday night and it repeated. But I couldn't get the blood to slow down this time. We had to call an ambulance. All the exact same tests repeated. Eventually they gave me some kind of medicine that slowed it down and admitted me for 8 hours into a regular hospital room to keep an eye on me and that it slowed down.

I'm now on medication to keep the bleeding under control (they say that the medication should stop the bleeding within a couple of days but so far it hasn't) but at least it's within the realm of normal. Well that is normal for when I still had my monthly's.

I have an appointment for August 29 for a full hysterectomy but the ER is saying that I need it asap because of all the bleeding. Trying to work it out with the doctor but so far that's the earliest she has. Frankly, anyone has.

We can't pay for any of this. I should be worried about my health but I'm more worried about the bill.

I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life.

If it is serious enough (I have no idea how they define serious enough), the procedure can be done by the ER rotation surgeon. If you find yourself back in the ER, ask the ER doctor. You should also ask your regular doctor.

Update

I had my surgery on Aug 29. As you know, I was in a car accident in 2004 that cause severe damage to my left leg and I had to relearn how to walk and was in pain for years. I thought I had moved on with it. Apparently not. I was so terrified going in that the anesthesiologist had to give me three shots of heavy duty anxiety medicine before I went into the operating room because I was just bawling my eyes out. I was absolutely terrified. Logically, I know that its not remotely the same but my emotions were something different.

Turns out I had three very large fibroids. And yes, they found a low grade sarcoma in one of them which means I have been diagnosed with cancer. From what we have been able to find, this particular cancer is extremely rare with a 99.99% survival rate. It;s so rare it happens in approximately 1 in 2 million women. So basically my worst nightmare thats not quite as bad as it could be. We are waiting to hear a date when I have to meet with the oncologist. The treatment for this particular cancer is what I just had done. A total hysterectomy so now I have to go in yearly to make sure it doesn't come back.

I also had a large cyst on my right ovary and endometriosis on my left (discovered only when she opened me up to look).which explains the intense pain I was in the last 6 months.

So what was supposed to be a 2-4 hour surgery ended up an almost 6 hour surgery.

Basically I'm on bed rest until she's ready for otherwise. I am supposed to walk, but I can't do any housework whatsoever even laundry. I can't lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. She says I'm healing well and my next appointment is Oct 15.

It's been a while so I've almost stopped the pain meds, Any pain is easily manageable when I compare it to the intense agony of my leg. I usually only need painkiller at night. I'm also having a problem with my appetite and sense of taste. I can feel that my body is hungry but everything tastes nasty. Even the pepsi that I love so much just tastes like flat sugar water. I've been told this can be a left over effect of the anesthesia and I was under pretty long so I'm just hoping it will come back. I've already lost at least 10 lbs. Which I admit I needed to lose but still...

I just set up my laptop in my bedroom today since I can't sit up. At least it's better than trying to surf the net using my phone or my kindle and staring at the same tv shows over and over again (the tv is driving me mad). I am BORED. If things go well, I'd like to go back to work, working from home, part time next week but thats pending whether I'm able to stay awake and don't fall asleep easily.

So thats the update. Ill let you know how it goes.
