Followed a link from a reddit that dealt with Pokemon Go, and there are some major issues. It seems that the publishers don't bother asking landowners whether or not they want "attractions" placed on their property, and their terms specifically state that risk to life is the ONLY reason they will consider for removing an "attraction" - anything else and you just have to put up with trespassers playing the game. In the reddit thread, a security guard has told them that a couple "attractions" are inside a secured area where unauthorized people are subject to arrest for terrorism. To top it off, the publishers had previously released another "augmented reality" game, and had removed troublesome "attractions" from it - but for Pokemon Go they went back to their "this looks good" list of sites rather than using the "pruned" list from their other game.

We don't have smartphones or tablets so I took my son's huge collection of Pokemon figures, put them around the yard and house, and this afternoon I'm giving him the camera so he can go take pictures of them
Ok I'll admit I car hunted. But we were traveling a quarter mile to gas up my nana's car and to figure out where the gym was exactly as well as the second doorstop. The fact a pokemon showed up as we were pulling in and I had to sit in the. are a few extra seconds to catch it was just an odd surprise.
I caught more just walking around the outskirts of the grocery store parking lot.
I got locked out of my Trainer Club account (something about multiple accounts under my email and it won't recognize my linked White2 gamecard ID)...and all the trainer names I've tried are taken. I'm currently somewhere halfway through the Elfquest character list...all of those can't be in use.
Given the bugs I've encountered (why can't it find a GPS signal when another app can, massive battery drain, only way to exit is to reboot my phone, etc) and the Google account access issue (isn't that technically considered a CFAA violation now*?), I'm not sure I want to install it...

my mom had the nickname problem too her usual nickname was taken and she wouldn't let me think of a silly creative one for her because she wanted to be able to remember it.
I picked Jenknu cause it was the first 3 letters of her first and last name and seemed appropriately anime-y.
In addition to having basically full access to your Google/YouTube profile, it also links to a prior ARG-type game (by the same people?) that allowed people to set up their own locations of interest -- which, for that game, mostly meant bars.
I haven't read the article you mentioned, but I have been playing the earlier game by the same people (Niantic Labs, owned by Teh Google) for several months. It's called "Ingress".
The locations that were submitted as "portals" (special game locations) had requirements--they were supposed to be public artwork, places of worship, fountains, etc. In theory you couldn't just submit any random location as a portal. In practice, it seems Niantic wasn't very careful about vetting the submissions. But there is a way to flag a given portal as invalid, which is supposed to get Niantic to examine it and possibly remove it. BTW, the only ones I know of that they have removed in the past six months or more have been ones on the grounds of schools. Apparently they decided it was bad to have lots of random people wandering around schools...
Some businesses specifically pay to have a portal on their premises. That's one way that Niantic can make money off the game, and in theory it attracts people to come to the store in question and maybe spend money. I guess it's a different way to advertise.
I have gotten stink-eye from a security guard on one occasion, but I was not on a restricted area of any kind. Just walking to a fountain that was a bit off the beaten track.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers
Ok I get it some people really love this franchise, I am not a fan in general. I am however about to check out an up armored MRAP to drive through traffic. I have almost been in 20 wrecks in 4 days due to morons slamming on their breaks whilst trying to operate their phone and catch a Pokémon.
First time I get hit by some clown playing that game while driving I’m suing Nintendo and the makers for billions.
AND as a pizza delivery driver this is the ONE BIG THING that concerns me the most. I have enough problems before this with drivers/pedestrians/cyclists/scooters/etc. in my area especially on weekend nights. Now throw in even MORE distraction(s) ----- God help me please???
Right after the game was released one of the people at work set up a Poke-spot near the store at midnight. 7 people showed up on a Saturday night to catch em all
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

The .mil site I work at has sent out 6 emails this morning about OPSEC, Security, and Pokémon Go. They are losing their minds, seems some clown put a Poke-stop out front of one of the buildings that’s behind a large perimeter fence with lots of people with guns….So now we have morons trying to drive on .mil sight to “catch them all”
Then there are the idiots they are GPS tracking taking their phones in uber Secure areas. First one I catch doing that I’m gon’a beat them with the book..

.
Here's a story I just saw...this is getting even more ridiculous...
"Pokémon Go has already been downloaded on more than 5 per cent of the total number of Android phones in operation, making it more popular than the dating app Tinder."

Based on what I've seen following links from Reddit, the publisher has a method of requesting that "attractions" be removed. Also, for some classes of property, they've stated that the ONLY reason they'll remove an "attraction" is if it poses a risk to life. I'd say that unauthorized personnel entering a secured site poses a risk to life - they could get shot.

The more I hear about this, the more it seems like an irresponsible, lazy and quite possibly dangerous version of geocaching. In real geocaching, all kinds of areas are verboten. This company is asking to get sued.
hey its getting my mother to actually exercise (she is horrible and wont without reason like her daughter is or a app is making her) but yes they really didn't take the time to pokespot appropriately
