  • Really, you don't have to document every time I leave.

So this woman in my building has berated me for not responding to her greeting when I was out the door, down the stairs, and already around the corner from her apartment, in a hurry to catch the bus. After that she doesn't speak to me but exhibits weird behavior. I've posted about her before, but let me reiterate that I've never had a proper conversation with her, don't know her name, and have heard her say things after I've passed her numerous times. She talks to my back. Here's the original story: http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...d.php?t=114386

Generally I don't acknowledge that she's out on her porch. I don't do that when the people above her (next to me) are on their porch, either. What I'm saying is that I generally leave my neighbors alone unless I am coming out my door right next to them as they're coming out or coming up the stairs. But she finds it necessary to mark my comings and goings verbally.

A week ago I was on my way down the sidewalk to the parking lot and she was coming toward the building on the grass. I was on the phone but I heard her say something about "good-looking"--not to my face, but of course she waited until my back was to her.

This morning I was on my way out at 7:45 and as I bolted down the stairs (I always leave too late that early) I heard her say "There she goes" to no one in particular. It was all I could do to not say "Yes, I'm going to my job because I don't get free rent."

It's just so creepy. When I sit on my porch I don't face my chair toward my immediate apartment; I face it toward my storage or forward to the courtyard. And even if I did face them, I wouldn't make comments to myself about they're coming and leaving.

She's a passive-aggressive nutball. It probably bothers her that you don't interact with her because she wants to know other people's business, like my next door neighbor The Pterodactyl. This woman HATES that she doesn't know my business. Sounds like your neighbor might be one of those people who gets very offended when people don't talk to them.

I think that's true but it's strange because neither of the other 2 neighbors on our end talk to her either.

Maybe I'll just leave with my earphones in, then. She says it low enough that only I can hear it and that would solve the problem.

ugh, this woman get both barrels of the "fuck off an leave me alone" shotgun (it's a metaphor).

I utterly despise the people who feel a need to basically be a dvd commentary on my life. It drives me up the wall and it's always in a judgemental condescending way.

How old is she? Maybe she has a thing for you. Maybe she has some sort of compulsion. Does she do this with other people, as far as you can tell?

She's old enough to be my mom, or at least in her fifties. I don't think she does this to anyone else.

I believe those are illegal to own - after all, they're what a Brit would call a "Sod off!" shotgun.

                  well done.

To be honest I probably wouldn't outright blast her right away but she would get a knock that off from me at first, I've developed kind of a 3 strike policy for things, life's too short and I have too few spoons to waste a lot of time on nosy jerks.

I had a neighbor like that at one place I lived. She lived right next door and seemed to know all my comings and goings. One item I actually went out for the evening and got home maybe a little later than I would from work. The next day she asked where I was. Also at the time I lived within walking distance of work even though I drove because I worked mostly evenings and I felt safer. So it's possible she went there to buy something and didn't see me.

Then there was another time I was going to work on a Sunday morning and running late. Surely I could make it safely to my car without notice! Nope! Just as I thought I was safe, there she was sitting outside talking to neighbor. This was 8 am on a Sunday! Then she has the nerve to tell me I was late for work. I was so glad when she finally moved away. Luckily haven't had any neighbors like that since.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

I would just straight up tell her to fuck off and leave me alone, that what I do is none of her business.

If I'm not mistaken, based on what you've said previously, you don't live on a ground floor, is that correct? Is there an alternate way for you to get down to ground level, without her seeing you?

Have you considered taking it up with management at your complex? Maybe they could send her a note, or something.

The headphones/earbuds thing is a good idea. I wonder if she knows (or cares) that you're ignoring her. Though I can see how it would be quite annoying. Although earbuds might be a bit small. I think I'd have bigger ones, just so she knows you're not listening to her.

It's possible she has some kind of mental disorder, as well. Does she live by herself? Is she always outside when you leave for/arrive from work?

It seems almost like she's waiting for you. Which I can totally see how that could definitely be creepy.
