Ok, I gotta ask. . . What online prog? Are they making another MMO or the "Insider?" The Insider looks pretty cool; I really like being able to customize and print out your character from it, but I'll withhold my opinion on the online bit until I see it in action.
D&D 4th Edition is being set up for global play. It's more or less an enhanced private chat system to allow you to play with friends globally as opposed to gathered in a circle. You upload your character sheets and roll dice online.

Have the D&D 4th edition books coming from Amazon (should be here today), and wife and I just had to pick up an extra players handbook (it's for "me," apparently, but I've not cracked it much yet), and she's been reading it non-stop. We already have a regular gaming group, so that works out...
Mine hasn't arrived yet, although they say it was shipped Monday.

It seems though, that with this edition you're going to have an easier time getting newbies to play than you would any previous edition. And all the griping (including the good natured in this very thread) seems to miss that point - more people are going to be playing an easier to get into version of the game a lot of people have been playing for some time.
This is a good thing, IMO.

And, to be honest, the mechanics were never the fun of the game to me anyway.
I agree with you here, but unfortunately a lot of people don't agree with you. Will this system pander to the min/max'ers out there? Personally, I hope not.

Edit: Also, the online prog they're coming out with will make for the single greatest MMO ever, as it's going to be true D&D with a visual representation.

Sorry, I'm not going back and reading 45 pages to see if this has been discussed.

Anyone here going to play StarGate Worlds?
I've been following this but only from afar. I love the idea, but then, I've loved several other MMORPG concepts that have fallen flat on their faces. Hopefully I can get into the beta and see. Here's hoping they don't use the standard treadmill style of online gaming prevalent today. Don't get me wrong, I still love playing WoW, but it gets old...

Well, WoW has ben eating my brain again, but I just picked up some new time suckers and felt the need to comment. GTA4 looks beautiful, and I like how it starts for once. I hated being a thug from the start in the previous games, it felt too much like a white boy wannabe gangsta story to me. This one I was able to get into and empathize with more. Burnout Paradise, I wanted to hate because they took my beloved crashes, but it is so pretty and I still have road rage. Condemned 2 looks spectacularly creepy, though I did have some trouble with hitting things successfully. Might just be I need more practice, though. Lego Indy is more of the Lego fun, and I always like that. Seemed a bit easier to pick up and get completion than the SW games though, maybe I'm better or maybe they made it more accessible?

FYI, for those interested, Falout 3 is coming! Amazon has an exclusive edition, Survival Edition, which includes the Collectors Edition stuff and a Pipboy 3000 Clock! It goes for 119 for PC and 129 for Xbox and PS3.

Kinda nice that bioware didn't completely wimp out to appease the censor nazis. Although it is kinda annoying that you can't get romantic with any crew member. You only got 3 choices, the alien, the opposite sex human, or yourself. Unlike Jade empire, which allowed you to get it on with who you wanted to regardless of gender.

Well, I was kinda not going there. Since Chainmail and original D&D is more of a miniature table top game and not pen and pencil RP game (at least with the gang I played with) Might as well play warhammer.
Chainmail, yes. D&D, no--at least not for me. I didn't get involved with heavy miniature use for a D&D game until 3.0. Except for a few special battles, imagination worked just fine--mainly because we were too lazy to haul around the minis every game.

And the only Warhammer I've played is the RPG rules or a couple of the video games.

Ah, yes, just passed that part. To sum it up:
Well, that not the only sex scene You can get it on with the slut of the space port too.

And, to be honest, the mechanics were never the fun of the game to me anyway. It was always about making as many stupid jokes as possible. (Such as the time we came across a temple off... hell, deity of travel? Anyhoo, there was an altar boy scrubbing the floor and an old priest. Inappropriate, yes, but now all one of us has to do is make a scrubbing motion and there is much laughter and merriement)

Ah, yes, just passed that part. To sum it up:

    Liara: "That was incredible, Shepard."
    Shepard: "I CAME RAINBOWS."

Have any of the other D&D'ers here devled into the new edition?
I've talked to some friends about it, but they've come to the same conclusion as I have. None of us want to start it up again unless we can make it a somewhat regular thing. It gets depressing if we can only play once every few years.
