I beta'd that for a while. I loved the ship to ship stuff but I found the actual out on foot combat to be pretty lackluster on every level. How is it holding up anyway? I remember they had to shut down some servers due to lack of player population a couple months back.

My current game is Pirates of the Burning Seas. It's an MMO(?).
Honestly, I did not think I was going to like it as much as I do but it's highly addictive. I never saw myself getting into a game based in the 1700's around a maritime theme- not my normal genre at all.
The world is massive and there is SO MUCH you can do. I've been playing for months now and I haven't finished all the missions. The player economy system is amazing, it has fantastic PvP/PvE, etc.
Anyhoo~ that's what I'm playing.

Sadly I've been snagged by Rune Factory for my DS gaming at work.
Curse you, Harvest Moon. CURSE YOU.

So Steam was having a sale on Sam and Max: Freelance Police, so I picked up seasons one and two. It's been a while since i've played an adventure game, so it took some time *coughandhelpcough* to get back into the proper mind set, but I'm in the swing now, and man, those two are just as wacky as I remember. Not quite as much with the violence, which is too bad, but that's acceptable, I guess.
As for a blast from the past, (well, like late last year) I just got Guitar Hero III for the Wii yesterday, and played it for about 8 hours total. Yes, I was insane. Yes, I did enjoy it
Next on my list are Okami, No More Heroes, and On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness: Episode One. Probably not in that order.

I live =p
Haven't been playing much other than PSP games and oldies on my GBA due to illness (if you have to be hospitalized i highly recommend a PSP).
FF7:Crisis Core- a lot of fun and very nostalgic. At the same time though I feel like the game is a bloody tease. Nice graphics, fun action scenes and familiar characters, but at the same time it's not what you really want to be playing. The enter time I was playing it I couldn't wait to get home to play FFVII (which isn't even in my top 3 favorite FFs btw).
Also, why the hell do they keep trying to come up with "fun" new battle systems that are nothing more than repetitive and gimmicky. Randomly casting limit breaks and summons? Seriously? Gah! That is exactly why an open bar at the game design company is bad. If they want to use a new battle system, they should just steal the one used in FFX-2. Granted it's not brand new, but it is fun, which is more than can be said about the battle system in Crisis Core, imo. Though the changing jobs aspect would need an explanation, even if I personally find the thought of Zack changing dress spheres mid-fight <snicker> funny as hell, I can understand the cries of outrage cause by it.
I also got the chance to play God of War: Chains of Olympus which is exactly what I expected to be. Although I found it strange that when I went to buy it the male game store employees looked mildly horrified (after the obligatory shock, of course, that happens whenever a girl asks for something other than the new American Idol game or Barbie Adventure
) and then tried to explain to me that I couldn't possibly want to play GoW because of the *gasp* sexual content. Of course if they had seen me a couple hours later merrily playing the sex minigame, chanting "Mama needs a new set of blades!" they might look at girl gamers differently.
New subject! F.E.A.R. that game is creepy as hell. Though deciding to play it in the dark, alone and wearing Bose headphones was not my brightest moment. It did however create a lasting memory of the game. I also like how the game can actually be really hard if you aren't playing smart, which is a nice change from the usual run-and-gun with no real strategy other than having enough ammo.
For MMOs in an attempt to try something different I have been playing WoW. It has good things to it, but it just doesn't satisfy me like I was hoping it would. I've been reading up on Age of Conan, and while I love funcom's other MMO Anarchy Online, I'm not sure AoC is what I'm looking for. The new Warhammer coming out also looks worth looking at.
On the subject of old games, I can't be the only one to feel this way, but games I have fond memories of I try to play again only to not be able to get past the horrible dialogue (why does spell check not recognize "dialogue" wtf) and in some cases translation. I am not talking about it being a little bad either, but nigh unreadable. The Legend of Dragoon about gave me fits, and thats a game I really remember liking. It makes me afraid.
That's all I can think of for now.Last edited by aniwahya; 05-27-2008, 05:41 AM. Reason: sentences make more sense when you don't forget random, yet important words

I installed the TMNT game in my laptop a few weeks ago and I'm having trouble getting past a certain section. It's the one where it's windy and raining and the Nightwatcher has to get across a large gap. For some reason, the wall run isn't working. If anyone could help, that would be great.

Heh, the West End system is fun, but my current passion is the Big Eyes, Small Mouth D20 system. I ran a Sliders-style game for a little while where the characters popped between worlds. After having a knight, a schoolgirl, and an elf hacker fight Lovcraftian horrors, I really believe you can do anything with that system.Quoth pssorens View PostI've gamed since High school. and have mostly played star wars ( west end and Wotc) every incarnation of dungeons and dragons, shadowrun, battletech, gurps, deadlands and numerous one shots at cons and game days. right now Warhammer, 40k , Necromunda, and mordheim take up most of my limited gaming time that and avoiding painting mini's
For minis, I play Red Shirt Games' Injurious Games, and compete in their tourny every year at Origins. I even won one year, but I'll let you dig through the site to figure out who I am.
I have a friend who is incedible at painting, so I have him do my minis for it. I pay him off in cash and Prussians.

Yay for Lost Odyssey.
My latest distraction has been BioShock. I have to say it is a wickedly fun shooter. There is nothing quite like hacking into the automated defense systems and then luring a bunch of unsuspecting enemies into a death trap
That and freezing, torching, shocking people to death is kind of cool too. IE Set em on fire, watch them run to a pool of water to put themselves out, shock them while they are in the water. Its got that whole sadistic glee thing going for it

Heh - started a new GW character called 'Delerious Tremens' the other day. One quest is to go to a crevasse freshly opened in the earth. You have to go and get a quest from a certain dude, who promptly told me...
"Did you feel the ground tremble under your feet, Delerious Tremens?"

yeah, that was a fun quest. Just avoid the temptation to go 100% invisible. Kinda dulls the game after that. All through, I think it's funny how I can walk up to a non-killable character and keep ko-ing him/her and the guards run around trying to find me.

Okay, I've been playing Oblivion again, this time with the intent to actually finish it. I may have run into the single funniest moment in gaming last night. You see, I was doing one of the shrine quests, the one for the god of madness.
I've seen a plague of locusts.
I've seen a plague of frogs.
I've seen the black plague.
But I've never seen a plague of dogs on fire rain down on a paniced populace.

Or maybe I've just stayed up too late again...

My fingers hurt. I finally broke down and tried some Rock Band this weekend. Just a little guitar and bass on easy with the wife. Used my sons account since he has all the songs unlocked, and now my fingertips are all tender.
I can see how that game could get very addicting very quickly.
Heck ,we palyed for probably an hour longer than intended simply because she wanted to 'beat' me by getting a higher percentage in at least one song before we stopped.
(BTW, she finally did, getting 97% to my 93% on Vasoline by Stone Temple Pilots on Easy. I was bass, she was guitar)

My motherboard arrived today, unfortunately I'm not going to get to put it in until Monday. But  this thing just ooozes coolness and power. It's all greys and blacks. It's also got a handy LCD display to show error codes so I know just wtf happened when it doesn't wanna boot up. As well as some other really nice ease-of-use features.
On a more game-y gaming note, I finished Assassin's Creed yesterday, and it was pretty good. Last mission was kinda really easy, but I like to think that it's because I'd gotten just that damned good
Also, the ending's a huge set-up for the sequel, and leaves things in limbo, but it's probably necessary for the arc they're setting up. So I'm okay with that.
Since I'm done with that, I decided to finally go back to the Orange Box, as I've never beaten Half-Life 2 even. I think I'm fairly near the end of that, then I'll move on to the episodes 1&2. Try and play some TF2 in there finally, as it's been ages since I've been able to find the time
