  • yeah i get to be more of a geek

i just got something i have been overridden with joy about receiving, i mean so happy it isnt funny, if my sister knew how i excited i am right now she would try to lock me up in the bathroom or a closet just to keep the happy down.

i just received a role playing game book.

    Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress.

its a girls guide about dungeons and dragons to help girls get into them to develop characters or even how stereotypes are true and false at once. i have been excited sense i discovered its existence, and have finally received so i can finally learn more about D&D and maybe finally fully comprehend the game. or not at least have some laughs about some else kind of like me trying to get into roleplaying games when they dont even know if they belong playing them.

*squeels* and it has really pretty pictures!!!

I have already read "Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress". I really hate to critique it for you as you haven't read it, but my thoughts on it: Stephanie Meyers, of Twilight "fame", could have written a better book.

I'm thinking of writing a better book. If I were to get back into the gaming scene full-time and pulled out my half-orc barbarian. I even one time made a warrior bard type character - a Stone Child it was either 3rd or 3.5 ed.

I think the only reason it is being touted about is 'cos it's a "D&D book" written by a female and as we all know, Female D&D players are as unique as pink unicorns.

I liked the book. I'm damn sure the whole point of it was to be a funny book. You should read her articles on wizards, when she's a DM.

Plus that book has recipies on food.

I didn't read any books on it. I just went to games and played. Can you get hooked in with a group who are open to a new player learning the ropes? There ain't nothing like experiencing it to get to grips with it. Like learning a language - immersion is best.

Yes, but make sure you're not in a group who thinks girls are only for "fun in bed" and shouldn't be with the "big boys" at the gaming table. Yeah, Mr. Rum's ex-gaming group was like that. Now I want to play my half-orc barbarian who likes to wear pink hair ribbons in her hair.

P.S. I got good gaming recipes from GenCon2007 - it was for the Gamer's Girlfriend class they had there.

you see this whole finding a group thing involves monday nights (ill explain in a minute) and unfortuanitly i have class on mondays (damn that adviser for lyinng!!!)

why monday nights a local bookstore has D&D gatherings then with fairly nice people and i would be able to find a group there.

I haven't done much geeky stuff lately.

Last geeky thing I did was tell my friend that I was feeling as sick as a womp rat.

Most of what makes pen and paper RPGs tough to get into is the belif that you need tons of stuff to play. Sights of people packing 40 pounds of books around are not uncommon.

Don't let them phase you. Getting into it is simple and not the most price demanding hobby going.

Find a good group of friends (I assume you have one as D&D is a very social game) and ask a CRAPLOAD of questions. With a good group, reference materials get shared. As for starter equipment...

                          -Books
                          Player's HandBook
                          Dungeon Master's Guide
                          Monstrous Manual
(These 3 are the D&D holy trinity. They should be the first 3 books you get, and with a good imagination, the only 3 you will ever need)

                          -Dice
                          Starter set containing:
                          1 4-sided
                          1 8-sided
                          2 10-sided
                          1 12-sided
                          1 20-sided
and get a few 6 sided (regular dice)

                          -Extras
Binder (for character sheets, maps, extra info)
                          Grid paper (maps)
Pencil (mechanical is best and for the love of god don't use a pen!)
Clipboard (for active sheets and writing. Books work, but not as well as you might like)

                          Anything else is purely optional

And remember, Pen and Paper outside of tournaments are not a competition fest. They are there more as a social centerpiece, where friends get together and have fun together. Some of the most fun games I have been in usually result in someone going "That was awsome! I hate you for it" more than once. Heck, when I started, we made character sheets from scratch.

When I started I only had the player's handbook and that was enough with the group I was in. If you find a good group gender really doesn't matter and in the games I've played women tend to bring a ton of fun to campaigns. I need to find another group both my shadowrun game and my D&D game have been put on indefinite hold.
