one whine my current friends are bar hopers!! who dont play D&D!! one plays WOW but i dont think he plays D&D. i want to find a group but haven't been able to yet.

second hey just bought two of those just need the monster manual. the other one i bought was dungeons and dragons for dummies
Many game stores (I'm talking the kind of game stores that actually sell D&D books, dice and other accouterments necessary for playing) will have a bulletin board for people to post game notices. It may not be the best option, but you can always interview the group (and they, you) to see if you're compatible.

Your best bet is to try and find an adult group.

Also, the only book you absolutely need to get started with is the Players Handbook. The rest will come in handy later on, when you decide to start creating your own adventures.

Yes, but make sure you're not in a group who thinks girls are only for "fun in bed" and shouldn't be with the "big boys" at the gaming table.
The ex was like that (far as I know he still is) and couldn't fathom that I ran a gaming group in high school...yeah it wasn't D&D but it was still gaming. When he announced his point of view in the college gaming group we were both in, it was quietly decided that his character would get interesting penalties until he learned.
