What about Morrowind? The original, not the new one. Should run fine on most current machines, even if it was too graphics-heavy when it came out.

Elder Scrolls III. It's been...um...Probably nearly 6 years since I've played anything from Elder Scrolls, but I still think on it fondly...all the hours of fighting with my computer, screaming at it, talking to tech support, wondering why my top-of-the-line graphics card and insane (for that time) amount of memory wasn't solving the problem...

Yeah, that was fun

Oh, and another game to look for: it's a MUD called Federation. I was a beta tester back in the day, it's still quite fun, though a bit too easy for me in comparison to the old version.

On the Old-School-style of 'Do this for such-and-such at Location X, then Come back to Location Y and do this for 'Who-and-who' (Aka. Dungeon crawl with NPCs rewarding your genocide) Might I suggest a more recent game?

www.playrequiem.com to be exact; Takes all the good from games like Lineage; then Mixes liberally with Conan-style blood and dismemberment, Fallout-Esque Post-apocalypse, and D&D style questing. Might be worth checking out if you want a newer game or MMO.
